If a fighter today did what Ali did (name/religion change)

How would he be recieved in our war time era. Is there enough media and anti-war support for someone to avoid anti-american rants that would surely follow. Or better yet what if Ali was from this generation and did today what he did years back?

    Edit:

If there was a draft today. What-if scenario...

he'd actually have to volunteer to go to the war and do other things like speak to crowds.

I realize things are done differently now. There isn't a draft and so forth. Its just a what if scenario.

Since Ali is looked upon as an icon/hero and we are currently putting deserters in prison, I thought it might be an interesting concept, society has changed a lot in the last few decades.

So if there was a draft and someone did what he did.

I don't know but Ali was a legend for standing up and refusing to be killed for a country that never even gave him his human rights.

No one would really care....unless he said he supports Osama Bin Laden and all of Al Qaeda fighting the infidels, etc.

Australian boxer Anthony Mundine got some flak by making some anti-American remarks after 9-11. It was felt at the time that it might hurt his career. I don't know if it did or not.
