  • Why do you think Boxing is not Big anymore?

I think it is because promoters dont build up there fighters...i was thinking about the success of UFC they built up the fighters so even if they fought someone sorry the people will believe it...they are buying the hype.

look at how many shows are having an mma show? MSNBC has a warrior nation devoted to mma, and ESPN is now gonna air MMA fights and are thinking about taking away tuesday night fights...and also FOX public tv channel will soon be airing a reality show on basic tv! thawts huge!

and you get to know the personality of the fighters.

this morning i was listening to power 106 in LA and rampage jackson was on and he was very personable and charismatic and funny he is like a down south rapper with a unique story he has an albino son, half japanese kids and he wears a huge chain on his neck...and is funny to top it off.

So many girls love UFC because of the reality series and the drama,I never seen so many women into fighting as in mma...because women need drama to be attracted to something they like the soap opera and hype behind the fight and the popularity.

With boxing they dont build up the personality of the fighters, like paul williams, cotto, mayweather jr, pacquiao, etc.

this was the reason oscar dela hoya was so huge and sugar ray leonard!

oscar had a story and everyone in the usa learned of his mother dying and he dedicated the gold medal to her he was a good looking kid who could fight and he was a instant hit with mainstream because we got to see his personality and know about him...

I think arum and king need to allow some younger people to take over and build up the fighters our sport is in the decline...more people are watching hockey in the usa then boxing.

boxing right now is at the level of MLS soccer...heck even mls soccer in the states is getting more hype since signing david beckham.

    you have to understand
the hardcore boxing fans are going
to stick with boxing no matter what

its the casual fans that boxing needs
and with so many champions in each division
its too much confusion also bad decision and
    politics is turning people away.

barerra vs rocky on ppv come on
every fight doesnt need to be on ppv

winky and taylor was a bigger fight and it
    was on hbo

    boxing needs to be consistant
we need more espn friday nigth
fights and espn 2 the versus network
and fsn to showcase more boxing
    which they have been doing
to showcase the younger not yet know boxers
so when they do get on ppv or big hbo showtime
fights they can be known already

also i think hbo needs to cut back on ppvs and just
showcase the medicore fights on regular hbo
and stop showing the fight on the following saturday.
at least put it on on demand that boost ppv buys a lil

and we need a legit champion in each division
    back in teh day
    ali was champion
    or tyson was the champion
    hagler was the champion
    or lenord was the champion
    chavez or toney or jones
there was no he has a belt but
not a champion. they need to have a tourny
in each division to crown 1 champion.

and get rid of this mandatory **** making fighters drop
belts if they dont fith a mandatory because they wanted
to fight a better fighter. because the vaceted title
gets no respect and thats what a title is there for
    respect.

let judges use instant reply as well
im tired of bogus decisions and calls

While what you said would help a little, it isn't like boxing hasn't tried this with the Contender. The real reason boxing fell out of the mainstream is PPV. MMA is slowly moving away from PPV because they've built up the popularity to do so. You can't grow on PPV because your product only goes to a certain niche. If the American audience was given even today's mediocre heavyweights fighting for belts on say ABC you can't tell me that that wouldn't give the sport a huge mainsteam boost.

Boxing will allways live. Its a pure sport. By pure sport i mean basic. For exanple track is a pure sport. 2 guys start at a line and run to the other line first one there wins. Now because its a pure sport it will allways be around even if its not televised and making billions of dollars. the Same thing with boxing its pure its basic and its human nature. But i do agree those things defanitly would boost its popularity by far

a more pertinent query is, will you ever stop making "boxing is on the decline" threads?

Yes, it has in the days of Joe Louis, Mike Tyson, even the Trinidad and Delahoya prime is was a greater era in boxing. Boxing does not get the exposure it deservev because it does not get enough ratings for stations to pick it up.

                A few good reasons

                1. Poorly organized with all the multitude of weight classes and belts. There needs to be one governing organization.

                2. Typically fights are for money over prestine or belts. Other than money there is no real desire to build twords an ultimate goal like the superbowl or NBA finals.

                3. PPV is a killer. Nothing damages a sport more than needing to pay 40-50 a pop to see the big fights.

                4. The bodies the represent the sport don't hype or advertise the fighters. Promotors do this and some do a better job than others but the coverage isn't what it should be.

IT HAS **** ALL TO DO WITH MMA.......

PPV ... and lack of exposure... No free TV kills any sport...

why is boxing declining? Maybe its cuz people would rather see a full card of ufc fights with well known ufc fighters rather than paying 40 bucks to watch 1 good boxing fight with an undercard of bums. Having 17 weight classes kinda hurts matters too. Do we really need a weight class in between 105-112, do we really need a weight class between 112-118, do we really need a weight class in between 118-126. Its just ******. There are 8 weight classes between 105-130, its a joke.
