[QUOTE=edwardscizzands;2060367]WBO orders Margarito-Williams!
Tuesday, January 16 2007
The WBO has ordered a purse bid for the WBO welterweight title bout between champion Antonio Margarito and mandatory challenger Paul Williams to take place January 23 at the WBO Headquarters in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Championship Committee has approved a minimum bid of $200,000. Margarito, however, is penciled in to face Miguel Cotto on a big pay-per-view event in June and is widely expected to relinquish the belt rather than to face Williams.
.....widely expected.....
A man can take a lot of **** for being "widely expected".........Comment

Does this mean we'll get Williams vs. Michael Jennings for the vacant title? Williams is of course ranked no.1, and Mosley and Collazo are 2-3, respectively, and Jennings is 4. Since Mosley and Collazo are fighting each other, I suppose Williams-Jennings could be sanctioned for the belt. I, along with probably almost everyone else here, would much rather Williams take an interim fight and wait for the winner of Mosley-Collazo if Margarito does indeed vacate.
Well, I just found out that Jennings is on the Calzaghe-Manfredo undercard, so that's out. Number 5 ranked Kevin Anderson (also from Great Britain) is fighting Feb. 16 against Ali Nuumbembe in Scotland.
So who's number 6 you ask? Joshua Clottey. Seems reasonable to give him another chance...so maybe we'll get Williams-Clottey for the belt in March or April...Comment
