How well would have Floyd Patterson done at Middleweight?

He was a middleweight fighting and Heavyweight and knocking out heavyweights....how well would he have done if he fought at Middleweight? he could have easily made it he started his career at 162 lbs i think.

He had decent power and speed at HW i think he would have been much quicker and his power would have hurt a lot of middleweight if he was fighting an even sized fighter.

When he was young he made the middleweight limit but by the time he thought Archie for the heavy weight title he was at least a natural light heavyweight, he never weighed less than 181lb after that point. I don’t think he could stay at middleweight but if he could he would have been brilliant, his power would have been massive for a middleweight, his speed would have been good as he had the fastest hands of any heavyweight. And his chin would not have been such a big problem.

I don't think Patterson ever fought at or lower than 160 lbs. I think that the lowest weight he had going into a fight was 163- 164. He fought Peter Mieszala, a middleweight, early in his career but he outweighed Mieszala by about 4 pounds.

In his first career loss, his opponent, Joey Maxim, outweighed him by 9 lbs. Although officially Floyd was declared the loser, sports writers at ringside were unanimous in picking him the winner. One judge called the 8 round contest as 7 rounds for Maxim and only one for Patterson, thereby causing an outcry.

I'm not too sure that Patterson would have been comfortable at middleweight. Many experts agree though that he should have built a career at LightHeavy and would have become very dominant. He never lost a fight weighing 175 lbs or less, except that Maxim fight-- which in the eyes of all but the judges, was not a loss at all.

yeah patterson won the maxim fight that was some bad scoring, patterson could have stayed at light heavyweight for a lot longer, I read somewhere the fight with archie was originally going to be for the light heavyweight title until rocky retired and it was then moved up for the vacant heavyweight crown.
