Peter vs. Toney Could Have Been Better

The state of pro boxing today has helped me coin the phrase, “Everyone wants to fight, but no one wants to fight anybody.” The Samuel Peter vs. James Toney fight last Saturday night, broadcast live from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino located in Hollywood, Florida by ShowTime Boxing, could have been a lot better of a fight if the two combatants wanted to actually fight. It definitely backs up my line. [details]

What a dreadful article. Boxingscene should be ashamed for publishing that drivel.

a lot of potential barnburners could have been "slugfests"....but that is not ALL of what boxing is about...you had a one dimensional fighter who improved his technique and ring intelligence...you had a crafty former MW who was still formidable at HW with slick skills and defense...

Toney is not ****** to just stand a trade with Peter...Peter got smart in the second fight to box and not just try to land KO punches...

both men have my respect...these kind of articles do not help boxing...why not focus on the great points of the fight...Toney a former MW...Peter very raw, but improving in rematch....there were good things

The truth is Toney vs. Peter was a poor excuse for a fight. What I saw was two fattyweights conserving more energy than they expended. Both of them performed poorly and both of them ought to be ashamed of themselves. This is a prime example of why the fans are staying home and why boxing is a sport in decline.

I didn't find the fight boring for the most part. I really enjoyed it.
