Do you normally pay for PPV fights?
I have no problem with folks wanting to see this fight-who really doesnt but to be excited enought to pay $50 for it is awful.
This is a fight that you should encourage your freinds to do what you suggest-which is watch at a later date.
There will be thousands and thousands of casual fight fans that only buy 1 PPV all year and this will be it, they will be duped into thinkng this is one of the best fights in our sport, they will tune in and then after four rounds they will be shaking their heads-never to buy a PPV fight the rest of the year.
They will walk away saying how bad boxing is-this fight is so destructive.Comment

I know people want to see it as do I but we have got to put our foot down on PPV fights that arent really fights at all-this is more like a fundraiser for Bernard and Roy then a fight.
This fight will be sold as a great remtach and casual fans will tune in to see exactly that only to be hugely dissappointed by two men who are plain and simplyy there to pick up a fat ass paycheck.
Our sport is great and the casual fan out there needs to be exposed to the great fights, they dont need to be exposed to this fundraising garbage-it just kills our sport.
Do you understand the point Im making.Comment

Scap, when did I say I'd PAY to watch this fight? I said I'll still watch it...never did I say I'll shell out $24-$60 to watch it. If it is on regular HBO (which it probably wont) I'll watch it for free. But if it's a ppv fight, then no, I am not going to order the fight on fight night. I'll just pick it up from ebay or one of the guys I usually purchase fights that I want to add to my fight collections, but am not willing to pay money to watch. I dont have a problem shlleing out $3-$7 to pick it up on dvd and complete some of my career collections (of which I have B-Hop and RJJ to bookend them) but also for the historical significance of 2 hof fighters at the tail end of their career meeting up for a rematch.Do you normally pay for PPV fights?

So if you woulda asked me 'Why the **** would you pay to see this fight?' I woulda told you 'I wouldnt...and why the **** are you concerned anyway?'

I understand the point you are making. But the casual fan doesnt want to watch Adamek-Dawson. They dont know Kessler, Marquez or even Calzaghe (here in the US, I mean). But they do know Hopkins and they do know Roy. So this is about money and brining some casual fans into the mix. I'm not crazy about some sucker paying $50 to see what he thinks will be an exciting fight of the century. But boxing needs publicity right now. It isnt the sport it was back at the start and turn of the century. Heck it isnt even the sport it was 10 years ago. And if it means that HBO will put up a fight that will bring viewers back or pull the plug on boxing and switch to MMA, then fine, promote the fight as 'a great rematch'. Us more knowledgable fans are not gonna order it, watch it later on anyway (whether it's on tape, dvd or uploaded here) like you and I will and save our bucks for better matchups. But until boxing goes back to the networks or the 6pm sports segment on your local news stations starts to post fight results on sundays or mondays, the casual fan isnt going to pay for deserving fights of guys they dont know anything about.I know people want to see it as do I but we have got to put our foot down on PPV fights that arent really fights at all-this is more like a fundraiser for Bernard and Roy then a fight.

Your missing my boat...
Your right when you say that Adamek and Dawson is not something that interests the casual fan but that is EXACTLY the type of fight you should be telling you friends about who dont normally watch boxiing. Chad Dawson and Tomaz Adamek will make fans for life if they are given a chance-this is one of the best fights of the year and a fight where both men are taking huge risks-if you love boxing you should sell it to your freinds who are skeptical-this is a fight that should be pumped up!
Your right about network television, I truly believe Golden Boy will make it happen one day. Funny htough-on the other hand Golden Boy who has done some amazing things is going to shove Hopkins v. Jones 2 down our throats for $50...I believe it is one of those things that "has to get worse before it gets better" (Nard v. Jones defines worse)Comment
