  • Jose Sulaiman Gives Praise To Rudy Salud

WBC president Jose Sulaiman has commended the organization’s founding secretary general, lawyer Rudy Salud for what Sulaiman described as “a very nice gesture” in inviting world title contenders Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista and Z “The Dream” Gorres for lunch at his home with the Salud family last Sunday which showed his continuing love for boxing.

Why is it news that Sulaiman praised Salud for inviting two fighters to lunch?

And how long is it going to be before those fighters end up in WBC title fights in theri weight classes because they were "networked" by the WBC?

"Networking" often helps abbreviate the time frame, but didn't the same reporter also say in another story that it was Salud who was center of the negotiations to have Pacquiao face In Jin Chi--a develoment that left Sulaiman and the WBC utterly "confused"?

So how does one take the "confusion" alongside the commendation for a "very nice gesture"?

To be sure, it leaves me confused.

But, with that said, aren't we making too much out of Salud's role in getting Bautista and Gorres to fight for championships this early-- if such a "networking" role did exist? Wasn't it Golden Boy who got them the fight without Salud's help?

Wasn't Salud sick, and thus inactive, when Bautista and Gorres displayed their wares in the US in a series of fights that impressed Golden Boy and it was Pacquiao who helped pave their way to get those fights with the support of Tony Aldeguer?

So, why is that lunch so newsworthy when they were already scheduled to fight for titles anyway?

The last lunch that I found (and still think) was newsworthy was that one between Pacquiao and Oscar which....

Exactly - the lunch between Pacquiao and De La Hoya that ended up in the mess he's now in.

How newsworthy this is I don't know, but I also don't know why the sanctioning bodies have this country club mentality. They have an agenda to satisfy and that includes things such as assigning judges, and holding conventions in places like Cancun where those judges are invited as perks. And we wonder why we get ****** decisions.

The WBC should not be active to this extent. They are a well known organization that are going to get their huge sanctioning fees without all this regardless of who is paying them.

Of course, they're trying to force the issue of the Pacquiao-Barrera fight because of the money involved.

Jose Sulaiman released a statement saying that open scoring would be beneficial to focus the judges and that they have a right to feel proud of themselves. Who gives a ****? They have a right to do the job they're paid to do and honor the sport.

Sulaiman has an agenda alright, but it's not what's best for boxing.

Most news is bad news; seldom is good news news.

That's why I wondered, what's so bad about Salud having Bautista and Gorres go over to his house for lunch?

And if nothing is bad about it, what is so spectacularly good about it that it deserves to be in the news, not to mention that it is in the first two paragraphs of the story?

Pacquiao getting himself in a huge mess because of a lunch date was news... it still is. Big mess is big news. Maybe some people should refer to it as the mess out of the mess hall or something.

I am not going to depart from the discussion of the lunch because that was what my first post was about. I won't mind if someone tells me the menu... maybe the news is there.

Edit: Checking the title of the story again, I see that it says, "Sulaiman Gives Praise to Salud".

Doesn't that get one panting with the expectation that Salud just knocked out Vitali and Sulaiman praised the way he did it?

            Something like that....
