i didn't read the article and i am a fan of james toney and after that last fight i don't think he has it anymore, obviously he has the fight in him but he doesn't have the output to do anything at heavyweight and maybe even cruiserweight, for toney to make cruiser he'd have to go on a diet for a year.

seriously enough though, i just don't see toney really doing anything, he barely threw any punches, he didn't let his hands go, he let tons of countering opportunities go by letting peter off the hook with his wild shots, he was getting hit more than usual, i just think that it's time for james toney to think about getting out the game while he has some wits about him, he's had a long career, and even though he is one of the best defensive fighters in the game, through training, sparring, and all of his fight be it amateur and professional, he's taken a lot of shots, and now he's taking the hardest ones of his career in heavyweight.

if he could make the weight to cruiser i'd say he has a good handful of fights left, but i don't think he can make that weight.

i think he's better off getting a payday fight with a win and call it a career. if that is even possible.

I'd give him one more shot.

He at least deserves to go out on a win. He's had a great career.

          Yes he should retire

          I love JT but

He is 38 and his balance is off, his speech is slowing down, and he is taking shots. He had better balance when he was heavier against Ruiz. It's age and wear and tear.

Hearns was shot at 35, leonard was shot at 35, Ali was shot at 35, Holmes at, Camacho.

We Toney fans can be in denial but at some point you just don;t have it anymore. Listen to his post fight interview then go find one from 1995 on youtube. His speech is affected.

          He needs to stop

I keep trying to tell people that, but they just dont understand. When Toney was actually in shape vs. heavies, he was going against guys who had no chance of even hurting him.

That 70th win would be nice. One more fight at heavy then retire. If he can make it to cruiser then its a new beginning.
