I just BOXREC.com'ed JONATHON BANKS and...

He just fought Sebastian Hill... and knocked him within 2 rounds... again...

I know BOXREC doesnt tell the whole story, but with these prospects its hard to get them on TV.

But its that like taking a step backwards?

He just came off a GREAT comeback, and a character defining win, over Castillo earlier in the year.

And then he goes back and knocks out a bum, and a bum in which he already stopped in 1 round?

I understand that he's only 24 and hes got a waaaaaaaays to go, but i just dont get the logic of holding ur guy back after a win over a hard veteran fighter.

That to me is a sign that the fighter should take the next step up, even if it is a small one...

k.... the point is that its a stay busy fight. Its to keep him sharp and make sure hes not slacking off too much.
Manny probably id not want his twenty four year old prospect to be in many wars like the castillo one while hes still developing, let him stay busy and work on his skills.
its not about beating more and more credible opponents, its about developing your skills and once you have your skills developed then you want to step up against more and more credible opponents but no point in putting him in to come off the canvas gatti style when hes only twenty four and you can develop his skills so he doesnt ahve to do so in the future

easy practice something in camp, such as a right hook, if you usually throw a straight right, or maybe manny was showing him some new combinations, or wanted him to move his feet a different way. A safe way to put to use what youve been shown is to go into the ring with somebody you can practice these new concepts on(also known as a tomato can or somebody you already knocked out in one round)

this fight wasnt even really a stay busy fight anyhow for your information..

if you did some research on the event you would have seen that in was a charitable event to raise money for the Kronk gym in which he and aaron pryor jr had showcase fights... it was at a small local venue in detroit..

furthermore, look closely at banks record on boxrec again and it will tell you that the castillo fight was a very considerable jump in class for him, castillo was a former heavyweight who had not been defeated as a cruiser and even defeated a (faded) michael moorer while at heavy.... banks had no experience yet took the minor title shot on about a months notice if i recall correctly and turned in one of the top performances of the year that ended in castillo slumped and unconcsious...

he took that jump in class because he couldnt get a fight, other top cruiserweights dont want to fight him until they have to and he simply cant find to many in-between fighters in the cruiser division.

the same reason is why he isnt fighting now, nobody wants to give him a fight, cept bums like sebastian hill who make a living getting fights that other people are afraid of...

jean mark mormeck took 5 or 6 rounds to knock out the same sebastian hill 3 months prior, that banks disposed of twice inside of two rounds.

banks is ready and would take a title shot now if it were offered, he is rated by the WBO as a result of his minor title belt won over castillo, i think johnathon would be willing to go to England to fight Enzo Maccarinelli

Sebastian Hill? That's the guy Jean Marc Mormek beat in his first comeback fight after his loss to O'Neil Bell.

Jonathon Banks would get his ass kicked by David Haye.
