Why do people always have to get to the point where they end up discrediting fighters just so they can get the upper hand in an argument?

Toney has had bad times, Jones has had bad times. Both have lost, both have been recognized champs, both have given excuses on why they have lost big fights. Toney was weight drained against Jones, Jones was weight drained against Tarver. Is it true? Maybe. Either way both are going down as hall of famers.

People hate Toney because he comes off as an ******* on TV. Fine, if you really take what an athlete says or does on tv seriously then thats you. Personally I dont because nobody really knows what anybody is like off camera. Ive never heard of Toney being a **** to fans. Ive never heard of him causing any problems in his personal life. Some people are just arrogant and if he wasnt like that mentally then he probably wouldnt be so good in the ring.

The thing everyone hates about boxing fans is their blind love for their favorite fighters and the doube-standards by which they evaluate them.

For instance, Bozo made that old thread about "Maskaev FLOORED BY A JAB! ROFL" after Whitaker-Maskaev, but something tells me you won't see "Toney FLOORED BY A JAB! ROFL" posted today. Oh, just call it a crazy hunch...

Toney has a few truly outstanding wins and performances, but about twice as many lethargic, flat performances where he lost close fights or won unimpressively. He's not an ATG, but he's a very good fighter.
