Good fight. The first half especially.
I can't say this enough, and I haven't heard it enough...James Toney has BALLS for ****in' days. Give it up to the man.
James is just too heavy. It's affecting every part of his game. The way he twists and turns and ducks for defense...the weight pretty much guarantees he's gonna be off balance after all that.
He has always had trouble with a jab, and even though Peter doesn't have a great or fast one, his size makes it work against the smaller fighter.
Toney's edge in hand speed is gone. Peter was right there with him in every exchange. If he's gonna keep fighting I want to see him beat up top 30-50 type guys.
One of the things that made sure that Toney would never steal this fight is the fact that Peter ALWAYS came back with something. Every time Jmes had a slight edge, or had landed something, Sam would come right back and make it up. Energy was a big key.
That right hand to the body is such a smart shot. James never blocked it. It was there all night, and it helped set up Sam's left hook. A right downstairs- left hook up top is a viscious combo. That body shot is part of the reason James had nothing left in the final 1/3.
Peter is improving. And the biggest improvement he's made is his ability to think in the ring. This is from experience. He's gonna get better.
