When you REALLY think about it, BOXING getting kicked OFF of HBO is the best thing...

that could possilbe happen to the sport.

I obviously dont want it to happen, but if this burst in popularity from the MMA pursists, it may happen sooner or later.

And then you have lots of big fights flying around with no network to air them. Who picks it up?

Channels like ESpN and NBC because now they can pay less for the cards and bring in great ratings.

And what happens? Awareness of the sport rises as the public is more easily accessed to it.

It's an unproven fact that the #1 thing holding boxing back is the lack of publicity. But with Cable stations holding big boxing events, It could really turn the sport around.

So while i might mope and cry about having to wait a year or two before Cable stations pick up the big fights, and seeing the MMA succeed where boxing failed, it would be a jump start to dying sport, and its the best way i can think of for solving this horrendous problem.

I read that it's believed boxing will soon become like Horse racing, where the sport only captures the attention of the public for one event every year. Well, I dont that would be true if we had a more easily accesable boxing program, and the only way for that to happen is for boxing to get away from Subscrition networks like HBO and showtime

I don't think NBC would pick up boxing. The last superfight a Network station showed live for free was Sugar Ray Leonard versus Wilfred Benitez in 1979.

Boxing would just be left out in the rain like Cat from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's.

Of course that's a possibility but nah I don't really think so.

HBO has raked in a lot of $$$$ in this sports, and junking it just like that would open up opportunities for other smaller networks to pick it up and raked in the $$$$. Like for example Don King, who has been working his ass up to put up his own boxing network.

If ever HBO drops it, Showtime will make it bigger and vice versa.

Got my point? So I don't think it will ever happen.

A lot of people think that UFC or MMA or w/e, will force HBO to eventually get rid of boxing. And a lot think it will be sooner rather then later.

And i think channels like NBC or ABC would definetly take in the sport. They used to do it all the time, but once the money they paid didnt bring in the ratings, they stopped.

But now they would pay a lot less to get these cards and then every boxing fan would watch it cause they would have no place else to go. So the Ratings would be better as well. It's a win-win situation

Showtime would pick it up and rule it which sucks b/c i don't have showtime. I agree with Bostonguy, I haven't heard any such discussions about boxing leaving HBO.

Boxing is not going to be kicked off of HBO or Showtime. Why would either network lose out on money by cancelling boxing from thier network? If anything they see more money coming in from showing MMA fights as well as boxing.

I see what you are sayin what boxing needs is to build big fights that arent a let down and smarter prime time marketing on one of the major networks. Absolutely ESPN taking hold of the reigns would be way better than HBO alone or together. They need to appeal to people who arent fans, give them a reason to become a fan.
