His 230 victories is an incomprehensible number today, when titles are defending twice a year and a full ring career often consists of between 30 and 40 contests. [details]

In 1946, immediately before he figured in a plane crash, Pep strung together 11 KOs/TKOs in 17 successive fights. His victims in that period included Chalky Wright (KO3), Lefty LaChance (KO3), Tomas Beato (KO2) and Sal Bartolo.

LaChance was more feather-fisted than Pep. Of his 215 fights on record, he registered only 37 stoppages. (Pep had 65 out of 229 wins and 11 losses).

Bartolo was knocked out in the 12 with a solitary right to the jaw. Bartolo hit the canvass, rolled over several times in a vain attempt to regain his footing, failed, and was counted out. He was later taken to the hospital where it was determined that he had a broken jaw. With the victory, Pep was universally recognized World Feather champ.

Some years back, in 1943, Pep and Bartolo also met. Pep KDd Bartolo in the first round but the latter returned the favor in the 6th. That fight ended as a split decision in favor of Pep. Bartolo was a renowned counter-puncher.

From 1940 to 1943 Pep had about a dozen victories via early stoppages (1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds).

In 1947 to 48 (the years immediately following the plane crash), Pep only had 7 victories by stoppages out of 27 wins and one loss (to Sandy Saddler). Of those 7 abbreviated victories only 2 were in the first round (Young Junior and Jean Barriere), none were either in the second or third.
