Roach Trapped Now, Deal With Golden Boy Was Deliver Manny, Become Oscar's Trainer; Arum, Pacman Steaming Off To See Wynn In Macau

    Michael Marley
    12/27/2006

    Now it can be told...

With Manny Pacquiao seemingly set to announce in Manila Thursday that he is going to be promoted exclusively by Bob Arum's Top Rank, the fallout from the decision was reverberating throughout the boxing world, from Manila to Manhattan to Macau. Hey, I'm so glad you mentioned Macau as you will soon see.

    * Informed sources have told me that the agreement between Golden Boy Promotions and Freddie Roach was that if Pacman's trainer delivered Pacman to GBP, he would be named the new trainer of Oscar de la Hoya and thus would've been in Oscar's corner against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on May 5. Had the deal gone through as planned, Roach would have also picked up a sizable amount of cash.

    * Bob Arum and his man on the scene in General Santos City, agent Michael Koncz, have told Pacman to let his managerial deal with Shelly Finkel expire on schedule Jan. 31. They have told Pacman he should keep the managerial share in the Pacman pocket.

    * Pacman lawyer Jeng Gacal, who was there when Manny signed both the GBP and Top Rank contracts, is firmly in agent Koncz's pocket. If Koncz says jump, Gacal only asks one question, how high?

    * Arum's immediate plans are to feather his own nest with bosom buddy Steve Wynn, whose Macau hotel-casino is printing money. Pacquaio's next title defense is sure to be held at Wynn's property and, as far as an opponent, a Top Rank insider told me, echoing Arum's famous cry, who cares? One wiseacre said they might bill it as Pacman vs. Someman and they will still sell out and attract all the "whales" (high rollers) of the Asian gaming circuit. Wynn will be the host, whether in Vegas or Macau, for all of Pacman's fights.

No credible source to speak of. This is just an Internet-joe posting his version. End of story.

I thought Freddie Roach and Pac were really close, I guess not!

Is Steward stealing every boxer, this guys is so overrated and I bet Pac will learn to clinch now, that's all Steward teaches.

Actually this is not true, Hagler was only trained by Goody & Pat Petronelli and never changed trainers.

Trust me the Petronelli's are not considered great trainers but they had a great relationship with Hagler, which is very important to have between boxers and trainers.
