The truth is there is just more to gain from boxing Cotto and winning over a fight with Paul Williams.

    Tough decision for Margarito.
he could have fought williams in december

Margarito was looking past his November/December fight, Paul Williams probably wasnt anywhere near Margaritos radar and it was pretty obvious that Margarito was on his way towards a big fight against Cotto or hold hope out for a Mayweather fight that did not happen.

Paul Williams doesnt need to fight Margarito and Margarito does not need to fight Williams. Both guys are rising fast and you cant really blame Margarito for skipping Williams because he has much more to lose then Williams.

Williams is his mandatory. He either fights him or loses his belt. I don't blame him for going after the money, but its just funny that he whined for months about how nobody would fight him and now he might drop his belt and not fight Williams. It would have done a lot for his reputation if he would've fought Williams instead of Clottey, then went after Cotto. Williams is more highly regarded than Clottey, so he would've fought the better opponent and got to keep his belt (assuming he won).
What does Margarito have to lose? Williams is right on his tail in the rankings. All he has to lose is his belt and he automatically loses that by not fighting Williams.

Well what Margarito losses if he did lose to Williams would be any slim chance he even had of possibly even getting a shot at Mayweather. Who knows a loss to Williams would probably have ended Margaritos rise, a Williams Margarito fight would just gain Margarito some more respect but a loss ends his hopes. Cotto is a great fighter and there is no probably no drop in talent from Williams to Cotto.

Is Margarito dodging Williams, Yes. For a good reason? Possibly.

If Margarito doesn't know that he's not getting his shot at Mayweather by now then we have to consider him too dumb to know what's best for himself. One of the three (Cotto, Williams, Margarito) MIGHT get a shot at Floyd after DLH and Mosley IF he doesn't retire.
A loss to anyone ends his rise and he's more likely to lose to Cotto IMO. But like I said, he's going after the money fight with Cotto, which I understand. It was just funny to me how hypocritical he and his fans are.

Well answer me this, dont you think a Margarito victory over Cotto does more for him in his career (money+respect) over a win over Williams? Plus there just arent many other Boxers out there who pick respect matches over money, its just the sad fact.

The victory over baldomir did far more wonders for him solidifying himself as the man at 147 than a margarito fight would have, hence why people are saying what they are saying, its ok for Margarito to pull a supreme duck, but floyd cant do it for the EXACT same reasons, if not more siginifigant seeing as how Carlos was Ring champ?

Thats what people are complaining about, otherwise, its a smart move by margarito.

                      Ditto

And to answer the question: "Well answer me this, dont you think a Margarito victory over Cotto does more for him in his career (money+respect) over a win over Williams?"

Absolutely, I agree he should fight Cotto over Williams he just shouldn't have fought Clottey over Williams.
