  • Whats with PROSPECTS taking SOOO LONG to become stars recently???

I remember hearing of mayweather, and then boom, hes on HBO for the rest of his career.

I remember hearing about corrales being this powerful guy, Boom, hes on showtime and HBO the rest of his career.

But now i hear of great prospects like Andre Berto (who FINALLY got on HBO) and the direll brothers and even Salita. But i am YET to see these guys on HBO!!!! I mean, the first fight of one of the PPV's had Salita on it, AND he wowed the crowd and certainly impressed the HBO crew... but i've heard nothing since...

ANd the Direll brothers are becoming big prospects. Ive seen them on TV like 3 times, and i remember being VERY impressed... but nothing has happened with them

Why dont they challenge someone big?

    And GREEN as well...

I think its a good thing, they can fine tune there craft before being thrown in there with the elites. No reason on rushing the young guns.

yea there is. for my entertainments sake. lol. i wanna watch 'em fight. lol

But some of the greats were launched throught the ranks with no problems... ANd a loss is always a good wakeup call and experience.

The fighter can stop worrying about keeping his record perfect and start fighting for real. Getting into true wars and becoming more marketable in the process.

But then again, a 0 on ur record is always very marketable... seeing as they were somehow able to sell Brock when he had the zero...

If anything I think guys are brought up WAY too quick these days on average. Sorry but I couldn't disagree more on this issue. It's better for boxing for these guys to perfect their craft, lose a few times to less dangerous guys, then get blown out of the water when they step up after only 20 or so fights and never recover.

David Haye was brought on really quick, facing Carl Thompson in his 11th fight, having already beaten Arthur Williams. In the long run that defeat has probably helped him over all and now he looks ready to face a challenge (still has under 20 fights).
Whereas other British prospects like Kevin Mitchell, John Murray and Amir Khan seem to have picked up bad habits beating substandard opposition.

Lacy was brought on way too fast IMO. Calzaghe was a huge step up and clearly damaged his confidence. Lacy had what it took to be a very good fighter too I think. It's a shame.

The problem for Lacy was that nothing could prepare him for an on form Calzaghe. Maybe fights with the likes of Mundine or Green would have helped him a bit, but it still wouldn't have been adequate.

Ward still needs major work, everytime he fought he was on the verge of getting knocked out, or looked sloppey.
