The fact that he didnt actually make 20 defenses is never brought up though, is it? His whole thing of why he should be a legend is bull****. No Contests are exactly that - no contests. They are non events, they are not fights. So he made 19 successful defences. Anyway, Hopkins is a great fighter, the best middleweight of his era and he fought in tough fights. He's just not as great as we'd like to think right now. He's top fifty, maybe to twenty five, but absolutely no higher.

Thats the thing. I havent seen all the great middleweights, so i cant just say oh Bernhard must be top 20, or top 10. I just know Bernhard is a good middleweight of nowadays. I do think he has strung his defences along a bit, but so has Joe Calzaghe, as i am sure a lot of people have.

Eubank's old ass is on the couch at home with a fat nose while Hopkins can still compete with world class fighters. Don't bring Eubank into this, silly boy.

Hopkins is a top 5 middleweight of all time, because you can still this just by watching him with your eyes. The eyes do not lie. Hopkins was a great, and is a hall of famer, and held the RING Title for a very long time.

I don't see Hops as a great because of his win over De La Hoya, but he destroyed Tito in a way nobody really thought possible. He's the only man to war with Tito and come out on top. He was also very competitive with another legend named Roy Jones Jr, which ended up a decently close fight.

And he did what he was supposed to do with all of the top 10 guys in his era. He cut em up.

The one thing i have against B-hop is that when he became undisputed champ he defended his belts against guys like allen, hakkar, eastman, daniels. The only guys that are even good were joppy and oscar. Compare that to JT, he has already fought b-hop in rematch, winky and ouma. Hell ouma is considered an easy fight and hes better than half of those guys b-hop fought from 2002-2005.

These guys moved up because they cant make the weight.

Its easier to move up than stay in shape as you grow old. believe it

The middleweights were a weak division and once Hopkins beat the challengers, it takes a while for the division to produce the next generation of contenders. So on this basis i never really used to rate Hopkins all that much, especially after losing to RJJ.

Of late though, Hopkins has in actual fact changed my opinion of him, after some good results. How he stopped DLH and was ahead on points against him, and beating Howard Eastman who was a genuine middleweight and someone i thought was quite good. Although the manner in which he beat Eastman wasnt that impressive.

I dont know all the middleweights of all time, but i would imagine Hopkins is top 10 material.

THe last fighter comparable to Hopkins is Marvin Hagler. Hopkins is special. Staying at middleweight even he's a natural super middle is a great accomplishment. shows what kind of descipline he has.
