It's not who he beat it's who he beat AND the way he beat him to get shot into the P4P rankings, if he would have had a Tsypko performance(A very good performance infact, but doubted because of Lacy's shoulder) he wouldn't be in the P4P rankings at all, but the fact that he came in as the underdog and gave this "future all-star" the beating of his life, it baffled everybody.. including his fans.

Now put that in comparison to Taylors close wins over B-Hop, it didn't shoot him up to #1, it didn't even shoot him into the top 3 on most people lists.. so as I said, he's not on the list for beating Lacy, he's on the list for the WAY he beat Lacy.. and it's worth mentioning that Jeff was on alot of people top 15 P4P list.

"The sheer depth in Joe's resume is incredible. Before Lacy he already fought guys like Mario Veit who was supposed to be the 'next big thing' in Germany, and if you look at Veit's record he hasn't lost to anybody apart from Joe. And before Lacy he'd already beat all the best America had to offer in Omar Sheika, Charles Brewer and Byron Mitchell. He's even fought Chris Eubank and even Richie Woodhall, his resume reads like a Who's Who of boxing." - Jim Neilly

"It's never nice to go back and a bit disparaging to say he could beat these guys. I will say that Calzaghe is arguably the greatest British fighter there has ever been, so I don't need to compare him to a Collins or a Benn. But because he's a mysterious individual, because he doesn't behave like a star and lives a fairly arcane life in Newport he doesn't get the credit he deserves. Look at the names on his record - Richie Woodhall, Charles Brewer, Byron Mitchell, Robin Reid and of course Lacy. He's beaten all these guys and beaten them well. Look at Mger Mkrtcgian, who's now the European champion. He battered him, took him out in seven rounds. The job he did on Lacy was sensational. He's a remarkable fighter and it's just a shame that for whatever reason he hasn't had more career-defining fights." - Barry McGuigan

What does it matter what American's think? They are bitter towards British boxers and always will be. Joe is fighting for respect in Britain, and is getting it by non-******s or those in the game (English boxing fans still don't like him).. that's what he cares about most.

What about the time he fought Omar Sheika? Sheika was supposed to be some kind of top prospect, there was that big article in The Ring, and it was almost a 50/50 fight beforehand. Calzaghe had looked awful in his last three fights (because his hand kept going), but finally got his hand seen to and sorted out and knew he had to perform against Sheika or his career was over - he said he was going to go to war, and he did, and what a performance.

Sheika had beaten Glen Johnson in his previous fight.

Brewer was ROBBED against Ottke, and anihilated Echols (Echols gave Hopkins his toughest fight) - 99 out of 100 referee's would of stopped the fight in Brewer's favour in the second round, and 99 out of 100 referee's would not of stopped the fight in Echols favour in that third round. They expected to walk right through Calzaghe because he was white and non-American and held a 'WBOgus' belt, they got a big shock!

And Mitchell, big puncher and two-time world champion who American's were saying would knock Joe out because he hit harder than Brewer (and Brewer got through). What was it Mitchell said? "I've never been hit so hard so often!" Mitchell had beaten Frankie Liles among others - Liles had a dangerous right hook (dropped Roy Jones in 1988 en route to amateur win over Jones, and the way it dropped Tim Littles was more clinical than Toney did) yet said Joe's left hook was harder. Liles was a top fighter ofcourse, beating Michael Nunn et al, and Mitchell beat him up (though Liles was the only guy to be beating Mitchell clearly until Calzaghe).

Sheika - the same guy who took Lacy the distance and wobbled him.

But he was never the same after the Calzaghe fight, they say.

Yeah, Lacy dispatched Reid with absolutely no trouble whatsoever.

And don't give me this "Reid was washed up" nonsense. He trained extremely hard for the fight and everyone knows it. But like I've stated he wasn't really that impressive of a fighter nor was Mitchell or Sheika.

Sheika? The same guy who was stopped by Pemberton? Scott Pemberton?

Flood this thread with misinformation all you want....it doesn't change facts. Those guys are all mediocre fighters in what could be the most shallow division in the entire sport of boxing. A boxing ghost town.

Calzaghe beat an excellent prospect, now it's time to show something.

He hasn't done enough to earn his rating on people's ridiculous lists.

How the hell was Lacy a prospect? He was an untested champion, there's a huge difference.

i liked lacy, but he was overrated ( including by me ). calzaghe has a lot natural talent, and it's definitely safe to say we know he's good, but is he great? it's too early to answer that question. i think the robin reid win was a good win, even though reid was old or washed up, or whatever. i don't think reid had slipped that far at the time he fought calzone. i think joe needs to show us more, but on the other hand, i think he beats jermain taylor at any stage in his career, but gets beaten by a young Hops.

                      juyjuy, your ****ing retarted.
No one gives a **** about your annoying Eubank stories.

Run, taking into account that skill is a big part of the p4p rating system, Joe belongs in the top 10.
