Not the best year I have ever seen but what are some of the positives you take from the year, here are a few of mine.
Manny Pacquiao-how rare is it for an elite fighter to consistently knock out other elite fighters, pretty ****in rare, thank god for Manny, he is truly the poster boy for our beloved sport, yes Manny not Floyd!
GoldenBoyPromotions-What a year they had, I cant imagine how far reaching their stable will be after 2007 but Don King is becoming extinct and Bob Arum is right behind him. Network Television is only a matter of time with this companies aggressive vision-which would be the best gift of all!
Jim Lampley-Yes Jim Lampley, did anyone catch Jim filling in for Fran Charles the other night on BAD, not dissing on Fran but wasnt that nice? His voice is championship boxing and he may get it wrong sometimes but his voice and presence always I mean always makes it an event, I love you Jim!
Edison Miranda-Boxing and the middleweight division needed a ruthless take no prisoners puncher like this, it is about time-he has turned himself into MUST SEE TV!
Calzaghe's Big W-It wasnt long ago that almost the ENTIRE boxing public was predicting not a vicotry for Jeff Lacy but a complete annihilation, Joe was as good as a fighter can possibly be and after years of taking tons of **** from friends and posters I was finally able to say "I told you so", this fan just hopes thats not the end of the road for the challanged matchmaker.
Wlad Klitchko-If there is a division to **** on its obviously the HW's but there could be a bright spot emerging. A win over Peter and two crushing KO victories over Byrd and Brock make him easily the man to beat, couple that with a shaky chin and you have yourself one exciting fighter, nice work Wlad youve put together a nice little comeback when many including myself thought you were all but dead!
160-175-Talk about getting loaded, there is so much god damn talent from 160-175 I could cum! I cant wait to see how some of these mathcups play out in the coming year, I guaran****intee ya it is gonna be alot of fun too watch.
Ricky Hatton-I know I know he struggled and was nearly iced against Luis Collazo but regardless of how he faires over here in the states the point is that this kid is a fighter and he crossed the pond to prove it. How many fighters leave a comfort zone like the one Ricky enjoyed? No one does and win or lose Im a Ricky Hatton fan and you should be too!
Carlos Baldomir-I heard alot of folks say the reason why they liked the contender series so much was because it dove into the fighters personal lives. I got news for those folks if they think Sergio Mora, Alphonso Gomez, Peter Manfredo etc have fun stories to tell they obviously havent met Mr. Baldomir who has truely gone from rags to riches in the course of one calendar year. He still has fight left in him if matched correctly-heres hoping to one more big payday for the Cinderella Man!
What/Who were you grateful for in 2006?
