Yeah, Hop is smart enough to invest a lot of time on preparation.

As for ring smarts, Hop waited too long in both Taylor fights. That wasn't very smart.

i think there both the same because each one have his own point of view to fight someone that is way you have many different style.

But Toney is lazy and not displine as well as a smart ass talker and that is way he doesnt have the ability to reach to the top.

How bout Toney vs Jones? Hopkins has never been outclassed as Toney has.

There's no fighter in boxing better than James Toney inside the ring. He's the smartest, most skilled fighter in the game, and neither Floyd nor Bernard despite their greatness are on an equal level.

            Toney.

He seems to do whatever it takes to win.

Hopkins is smart....but his loses recently were in part due to just being ****** in the ring.

It takes more than putting your head down and throwing lead right hands or lead left hooks and then holding to be better than Toney.

Does coming in into the big fights over weight signifies smartness?

                I'll be damn.

Toney has some serious boxing skills but he's far from being smart.

Yeah, that. I guess you can say that even the smart ones have their days.

But with that said, Hop wasn't very smart twice against Taylor. And Taylor was not exactly comparable to the peak Jones Jr. It was a time when Roy made everyone look bad; he was widely hailed as a class of his own. It was that same Roy Jones Jr. who a year earlier beat Hopkins at a lower division.

Taylor has not made any star look bad. Hopkins just simply had little activity in both fights and what little more activity Taylor showed appealed to the judges.

In sum, Jones beat both Hopkins and Toney; Hopkins seemed to have allowed himself to be beaten by Taylor. And that ain't very smart.

Note: JOnes himself wasn't very smart in the first Montell Griffin fight.
