I think some fans lose touch of what makes boxing compelling...

With boxing fans...a lot of times you'll see a fighter with good technique and/or defense, but little power....and internet boxing fans will bash him for not having power

"he has good skills, but no power...he wouldn't be able to hurt ______ and would be crushed"

then a fighter with great power and little technique gets bashed...

"yeah he can punch, but he has no technique and would be outboxed"

well that is the way boxing goes...

you have fighters with good technique, fighters with great power, fighters with both, fighters with neither...

but at the end of the day, it is the fighter who trains hard and is most determined who will win...

if it were all about technique, then Bernard Hopkins and Winky Wright would have won 11 of 12 rounds vs Taylor...and easily beaten him...

however what helps makes it compelling is that a young, big and strong fighter who trains hard and is hungry can either win or come pretty darn close with sloppy technique vs a fighter technically superior...

one of Chris Byrd's best performances was against a big puncher in Tua...people said "Byrd has no power, he would get crushed"...well he used what got him near the top...speed and movement...hurt Tua to the body and peppered him all night...

"Floyd has now power..."...well since when did he need to hurt Castillo to beat him in the second fight?

Look at, but don't limit yourselves to just looking at physical attributes of a fighter...

in someone like Miranda...sure we ALL see a fighter that is somewhat sloppy...that is nothing new...it is not BREAKING NEWS to post "Jason Litz has a weak chin!" or "Taylor is sloppy!"....as boxing fans, we see that...

but we also see that Jason L has the heart of a fighter and while you cannot improve chin, you can improve defense...

we also see that Miranda is a great finisher...if he is being outboxed vs a superior technician and the opportunity comes, he WILL take it...he will NOT run and just try to survive...

we see that Taylor, while technically flawed, knows that his biggest advantage is his size...and we see that he is actually working on his pacing late in fights....sure he wild out in the first couple of rounds vs Ouma...but then learned his lesson and paced himself...

I see young prospects willing to fight and some willing to learn and improve...you cannot always change who you are in that ring...I am not saying you should be a fan of them...but as boxing fans, we should at least be grateful and appreciative to have YOUNG fighters like Jason, Miranda and Taylor who step in that ring to fight, to win and try to win impressively...

or would you rather have fighters like Ricardo Williams, Olajide and Bojado with decent speed, pop and technique, but who either don't train, step away after a bit of adversity?

I agree with you mostly. Some judges tend to give away rounds to guys who are the agressor and not necessarily are effective, as your examples. However, boxing's on the downfall, it used to be a way more popular sport and bigger punchers and tougher fighters, mostly brawlers are the ones who fill up arenas and put out better numbers on ppv events. With that said, it takes more to be a skilled boxer than a brawler.

I didn't even read your post, but I had to respond to the title with a laugh. Come on. You say that like people are compelled by the same things! A million different people (maybe, hah) watch boxing for a million different reasons. There is no one reason, and no one post can make that claim.

fair enough...but I am not even focusing on one particular fighter, style or whatever...just that I feel we have a lot of young talent who show hunger and will regardless of whether they are big punchers, fighters with poor technique or slick stylists....I would just like to see more of an appreciation for all types of fighters we have these days

a lot of people on this forum have lost touch, nobody talks or cares about anything cept for the top top fighters and if youre a fan of anyone else youre ****** for liking someone who cant win a title.....

to me the fun in watching boxing is finding young fighters and following their careers and development... yeah i like to watch floyd mayweather jr. AND antonio Margarito like a lot of other people but what fun is it to talk about them on this forum anymore?? all it is it the same stuff over and over again.... i mean do people seriously think that they have insight about floyd mayweather that nobody else has had up to this point? please.

people need to get back to liking average fighters who appeal to them for whatever reason and being proud of it.. go to a local fight card, support the sport.... maybe you'll turn up the next contender... find something exciting to talk about for a change.
