What's the point in Hopkins becoming a heavyweight champ anyway?

For the division I mean, not for Hopkins.

If he beats Oleg (which isn't impossible) then he's hardly going to unify the belts against Wlad, etc., is he? It just further fragments the title.

He talks about wanting the title back in America, but he's not going to defend the belt, is he, presumably?

Isn't it just like Roy taking the title back to the States by beating Ruiz all over again?

Thats why Im against it. Hes not going to save the divsion by winning a belt and dropping it. Hes only going to hurt it. If he fights Calzaghe it would be the biggest fight of the year. Bigger than DLH/Mayweather imo.

How is Hopkins going to be a HW? I mean I guess you can fight at any weight ya want, but what's he gonna weigh? 180? Makes no sense to me.

There really is no point. It's mainly just for his trophy case and personal achievement. He won't unify the titles or anything (although I could see him maybe outsmarting another title holder like Briggs over 12 rounds) so I hope he just goes after Calzaghe or defends at 175 for awhile.

The world and his dog is crying out for a fight with Joe. Lets just hope his plans fall through and Maskaev gets a bigger fight. Hopefully that will pave the way for a fight with Joe (if the Taylor one does not materialise).

yeah it is more for personal gain...would not be good for the HW division as he probably wouldn't defend it

meaning it would be vacated...and some other fighters who we have never heard of may battle it out for the vacant title....that fighter will sign with King...will make some meaningless defenses meaning no unification...eventually lose the title to some unknown fighter we did not expect to win....then he will make more meaningless defenses before losing it to a former HW champion who will then be considered a 5 time HW champion...etc...etc...

            you know how it goes

              201 Pounds.

And it's not that big of a stretch. He was still skinny at 175, and if he actually ate food and put on weight he'd be a natural Cruiserweight.
