I cannot believe Floyd is still receiving the hate he is, for deciding to fight De La Hoya on May 5th next year.
Do you guys not realize that Floyd is fighting his FIRST fight (a natural 130'er by the way) at 154 against someone who has been at that weight for 6 years, or at least Welterweight for an entire decade.
Floyd isn't taking any warmups to get adjusted to the weight like he did at 140 or 147. He could easily fight the Corely's or the Brusseles' of 154 to help him get at least acoustomed to the weight, but he isn't.
To make that jump in weight, and to take on a Hall of Fame calibur fighter in his first fight at that weight, deserves a lot of respect. Not to mention Floyd Senior training Oscar to fight his son, and Floyd wearing Reyes gloves, which surely means he's going to break his hand sometime in the fight.
Oscar looked really good his last fight against Mayorga. Okay, true it was Mayorga nothing special, but still a quality opponent any way you slice it. You can tell Oscar has that rekindled fire and passion within him, which I believe eluded him the last few fights leading up to the Mayorga fight.
Sure people are going to argue that Oscar is old and past his prime. Which is true, because he is past his prime. But he isn't that old, he's only 33 people, only 3 years older than Mayweather. And sure Oscar isn't at his best, but do you honestly think Floyd is going to be at his best fighting at 154? Come on. The dude shouldn't even be at Welterweight, let alone Light Middle.
Okay, I'm going to shift gears here a little bit:
So all the while, when people are crucifying Floyd for fighting what I think has been good (not great) competition the last 2 years, while Hatton gets a free pass for practically every fight he takes because he beat Kostya 2 years ago.
Let's take a look at their past 3 fights (including the ones coming up)
Hatton:
Urango (Win or Lose)
Collazo
Maussa
Mayweather:
De La Hoya (Win or Lose)
Baldomir
Judah
It's honestly not even comparable. If you take off your "Floyd hate goggles" for just ONE SECOND, you will realize that in Floyd's latest 3 fights, he has fought or will fight 2 former UNDISPUTED champions, and 1 LINEAL champion of their respected weight classes. It would be 3 Undisputed champions (if Baldomir paid sanctioning fees). I don't care what you guys say, that is impressive any way you slice it.
And I know this will probably not change anyone's opinion, because haters will always be haters. But you know what? At least I can make well-thought out, mature argument, rather than the "ROLFROFLOFL Fraud Gayweather is a ***** LOOOOLL" counter argument that seems to be popular these days.
Anyway, that is all.
