It's always a pleasure going to fights, but last night was exceptionally fun. It's like a family reunion everytime there's a fight cuz all of the coolest cats are there. Thomas Hauser, Tim Smith, Boxingscene's Jose "On Fire" Aguirre, Brian Adams, Steve Farhood and a few other cats from the media were there and were all fun to talk to. Especially Tim Smith and Steve Farhood, they gave me a lot of good advice for writing and the such.
Walking down the aisles, I caught the playful eye of an older man who looked very excited to see me. It was Emmile Griffith, and I can't overstate how much fun and an honor it is to see him. He's so much fun to talk to, and is such a kind and positive person. We talked about some of his fights and he described for my friend Matt the pain of a low blow. He is such a warm and endearing person, and as I left he told me to always do good and study in school. It's impossible to not leave Emmile's company not feeling a lot better.
Chilling with Paulie Malignaggi, Curtis Stevens, everyone was so much fun. I got to sit in press row next to the ring card girls, and when they play it back on tv, whenever the ring card girls are saying something back from the ring, that's them shouting back at me and Nettles Nasser.
The crazy part of last night was at the end, when Brooklyn fighter Curtis Jones and Broadway Boxing announcer Brian Adams got into a fight after the show. Adams punched Jones with a right hand to the ear and started him bleeding around the ear, and the security was going nuts trying to break it up. Paulie Malignaggi calmed down Jones by telling him "You're a fighter, you don't need to go to jail", being the voice of reason. It was wild.
