    Manfredo: "Joe Calzaghe Still Unknown"

Yeah, Calzaghe beat Lacy, Eubank, Reid, Mitchell and many others yet he's an "unknown". This coming from a guy who already has 3 losses on his record and his only claim to fame is being on "The Contender". Say what you will about Calzaghe but he didn't need a reality show to make his mark on the sport.

Yeah he made his mark by beating shot fighters and being scared to fight away from home

I sure hope you're not trying to say that Lacy was shot before fighting Calzaghe. You can say Lacy was overhyped, undertalented, what have you but the fact remains that until the Calzaghe fight Lacy was "the man" in a lot of people's eyes. Many here had him in their sigs, had him as an avatar, openly touted how great he was, etc...

Then Calzaghe kicks his ass and all of a sudden the avatars, sigs and talk of Lacy's superiority cease and people say he was "never that good" to discredit Calzaghe.

And the reason I'm not discussing the other fighters is because many did not even know who they were or what they were capable of. So because they weren't popular in America, they automatically "******" and therefore couldn't be held as merit on any fighter's resume.

Oh there's no doubt in my mind what Manfredo is saying is true. The TV show he was on was watched by way more people than those who saw the Lacy fight. I just don't like the way it came across, which could be unintentional. But it seemed like he was trying to discredit Calzaghe or say he's better because more people know him or something.

Perhaps I read too much into it, or perhaps it's what he intended.

Lacy was overrated and in way over his head. Charles Brewer, Byron Mitchell, Eubanks. They were all past there prime. The only fighter he faced in his prime was Robin Reid. And he struggled to SD win. And refused to rematch him. Other than that everybody else has been crap. Evans Ashira, Kabary Salem, Will McIntyre. And the list only gets worse.

Exactly. That's why it's the perfect fight to boost Calzaghe's profile in the States, and make fights with the top American guys bigger fights.
