    Gatti/Ward I

    Folks

I know Mickey Wayd got the decision, but didn't Arturo Gatti really win this scrap?

A friend of mine watched it for the first time last month and had Gatti to win. I had Gatti to win when I first saw it, and also ever since.

    Opinions...

I don't recall my specific score but I think I actually had it for Ward, and I am obviously an Arturo fan. The knockdown really cost him

one judge incorrectly scored one round either 10-8 instead of 10-9 or vice versa in ward's favor and in what should have been a draw, ward won a majority decision.

I watched the scrap again last night after Taylor's fight, as much as I love Mickey Ward, I really couldn't see him as the winner...

        Funny old game...

Pretty much agree - thought Gatti did enough to edge it
(though how he actually made it to the final bell is a modern miracle)

            I scored it even.

            94-94.

Holy ****, how many of these threads does we need? Gatti lost a hometown decision on the account of the knockdown in the 9th and the horrible thrashing he suffered late in the fight after Ward's body assault started paying dividends. The low blow point deduction wasn't cool, but hey, whats done is done.

Yeah it became a close fight with the knockdown. Gatti boxed well for the first 5 rounds, then he fell into Ward's hands. Though...Ward wasn't godlike or anything either after the 5th round. That's just when it became more competitive because Gatti was boxing Ward well up until that point. I don't remember it too well since I haven't watched it in abit though after the 4th round, I would have given Ward the 5th, 8th and 9th round. I don't remember the 6th or 7th and I know Gatti won the final round.

I had it a draw. The knockdown and the point deduction are what really killied Gatti.
