    This thing about Amigorito/Mayweather...

... this really gets on my nerves when I hear the "what has Amigorito done to deserve a shot at Floyd" line, like that's what people are SAYING.

Here's the way I see it, I'll post it now so I don't have to be bothered saying it again:

The point is not that Margarito has particularly achieved a lot, or had a good record in the sport, just that the amount of money on offer to fight him (reputedly 8 mil) was more than Floyd - a well known businessman - was being offered to fight anyone else. Not ONLY that, but the level of opposition Floyd WAS fighting - a shot Gatti here, a shot Mitchell there, an always overrated no matter how many times he does a chicken dance Judah here - was NOT demonstrably better than Amigorito. So the question was - WHY NOT? If Floyd was fighting top level guys, there'd be no argument. But he WASN'T.

Okay, since then he signed to fight the undisputed welterweight champion of the world - again, not a GREAT fighter, but the right thing to do - so that was fair enough. He also got the same money to fight Baldi (reputedly) as the Amigorito offer. On top of that he's landed the big one with The Acting Amigo. Well done Floyd.

But AT THE TIME it was offered, that was the state of play. As I see it, anyway.

Just had to get that off my chest...

maybe because he new he was planning on retiring and he wanted to cement his legacy. he did say he was thinking about retiring after the judah fight but i think he wanted to go out better than that.

Margarito has accomplished nothing when compared to Gatti and Judah

Well the Gatti fight was at 140, but it's ****'en lame how Floyd fought him on PPV while Oscar fought him way before him as a tune-up on regular HBO.
