What is Margarito's reputation built on?

Supposedly he's this great fighter and nobody wants a piece of him but he looks ordinary to me. Which fight or fights were the ones that gave hjim this killer rep? I'd like to see them. From what Ive seen of him he would probably make a good sparring partner for Sergio Mora or some other 5th rate dingleberry but beyond that I dont see what the hype is about.

Your post is wrong from the start. Hardly anyone calls Antonio Margarito a 'great' fighter, so there's no need to start a thread based on that premise. Margarito is a top 3 fighter at 147 due to his being undefeated at that weight for around 8 years, fought and beat a couple of other good (not great) fighters, and because 147 is an average division compared to other high-quality divisions such as 130.

Because of the devastating way he beat most of the few good guys he did face. The guy hits hard, has a great chin, and some of the best stamina of any active fighter. He's a tough matchup for anyone at welterweight, regardless of their skill. He's also very big for a welterweight, which gives him another advantage.

No one ever said he was a great fighter but he's a deserving challenger and exciting to watch. Boxing is above all other things entertainment, something that is often forgotten on this forum.

Thats where your wrong my friend, Ricardo Celis, the annoucer spoksmen for channel boxing Telefutura, said Margarito was the best fighter showcased on the channel in the past years, out of fighters like Ponce De Leon, Miguel Cotto, Ivan Calderon, Israel Vázquez ect..

He probably meant best as in most exciting. I don't think anyone would argue that Margarito has accomplished as much as the fighters you just mentioned.

Whooptedoo. None of those guys is top ten p4p material right now. That comment = no big deal. Telefutura is no HBO. It's not like Larry or Jim said it, or Bert Sugar.

In order to beat Floyd Mayweather you have to be great.
