Since Saturday, many wars have exploded around here regarding Antonio Margarito's hot/cold performance. Personally, I have always rated Margarito as a top welterweight, not because he has great skills (he is not that talented skillwise) but because he finds a way to win and his fights are action packed. I like the fact that he goes all out even though that's what causes him to look amateurish many times. I remember the first time I saw him fight in 2002 when he won the WBO belt against Antonio Diaz in a great battle. Since that time, I have enjoyed his fights, but it's true that his skills need to be seriously polished before he can be considered well rounded.
About his fight with Clottey, I have to say he looked bad early on, but from the 5th round and on, he gave his usual performance which features a high volume of punches, relentless pressuring, and questionable defense. I had the fight 116-112 for him, but Clottey may have provided the blueprint to frustrate Margarito in the future. Right now, Mayweather would dominate him and Cotto would probably beat him in a tough battle of wills. Only time can tell.
