How the hell would beating Paul Williams earn Margarito more credit than beating Miguel Cotto?
Paul Williams is a strong undefeated prospect with alot of hype (overrated in my personal opinion). Miguel Cotto is also unbeaten but is a proven world champion in two weight classes, he is also a huge draw for fans meaning a significantly larger purse for Margarito. Cotto is unquestionably the tougher fight and it is the only fight which will decide who is the very best at welterweight.

So I really don't understand how you come to the conclusion that the Williams fight is more important.

I think it all boils down to what DF said..... Floyd did the same thing as Margarito will probably do. Every Marg fanboy on here said floyd was ducking him to fight the more established, more credible, and better known fighter. In essence, yes he is ducking Williams if he doesn't fight him and fights Cotto. Everyone should be held to the same standards, and 75% said PBF was ducking. Thats the underlying tone of this thread, no one (except maybe evil saint) is saying Williams is the better choice financially and makes more sense, but then again neither was Margarito in Floyds case.

For the record I was content with Mayweather's decision to fight the linear champion Baldomir.

In this situation, again I am happy that Margarito is going to fight the more proven guy in Cotto first. I think he will pursue a Williams fight, win or lose, afterwords.

The difference is Floyd turned down 8 million dollars to face the man reguarded as the best in the division. Margarito is shying away from fighting a decent prospect and is instead hoping to land a massive fight with a big-name for alot more money. Makes sense to me.
On a side note, I don't actually think Floyd didn't want to fight Margarito because he feared him, from what i've seen of both men I think he would have dominated and possibly stopped Margarito in similar fashion to his fight with Gatti. The only reason I can understand is that Floyd only wants to fight the biggest names in the sport from here on out to add to his resume before he retires.

There are lots of dumbasses in this thread.

                Cotto>Williams..

Williams has beaten ****ing nobody, he's just one of the many fighters that the network loves to hype up.
