Luis Rodriquez had a great defense and was a masterful boxer, who taught Ali a trick or two in Miami.

Pernell Whitaker for my money. There were some other guys who had great defense who are sometimes overlooked...such as Roberto Duran and Ricardo Lopez. Bernard Hopkins has been a defensive marvel in his old age. Joel Casamayor is one of my favorite defensive boxers to watch.
