    Maccarinelli challenge to Haye

    taken from the ITV website

Enzo Maccarinelli has urged David Haye to stop messing around with "weak" opponents and face a real fighter.

Londoner Haye became the WBC's number one contender for O'Neil Bell's world titles when he overcame severe cuts to knock out Giacobbe Fragomeni in the ninth round of their European title fight earlier this month.

But Maccarinelli, in training for a March 3 Millennium Stadium tilt against an unnamed opponent, believes Hayes' ascent is down to some clever management and weak opponents.

He said: "His record (18 wins and one loss), I think, has been padded out a bit by fights against weaker fighters.

"He hasn't been in the ring with someone like me, despite Frank Warren trying to make the fight.

"Fair play, he has done well for himself and climbed the rankings, but I think he has avoided most of the good names."

Maccarinelli was, however, impressed by Haye's determination in seeing off Fragomeni and would relish the chance to face the winner of his clash with Jamaican Bell in a unification bout.

He added: "He proved he had heart and could take a punch, which he needed to prove, but he didn't have much coming at him to be fair. I didn't really expect him to lose that one to be honest.

"But he fought a great fight, and those who said he had stamina problems were proved wrong.

"I don't care who they put in front of me. I just want to fight.

"If it's Bell then great, I believe we are the two best in the world in this division.

"And if it's Haye, then fantastic. He is a good fighter, he's British, and we would be fighting for a unified title.

"Either way, if I could get in the ring with either of them, it would be a great fight for the public and a good payday.

"I really don't think either of them could cope with my power.

"But there's a lot of politics in boxing; the fight might seem logical, but it takes a lot of work to make it happen."

I dont think Maccarinelli will get the fight with bell as bell has to fight haye first or risk losing the wbc belt, and he is not gonna get to fight haye as i think he will wait for he's shot at the wbc belt and then he will be moving up to heavyweight, to be honest i think it will be a typical warren promotion with Maccarinelli fighting someone who hasnt got much of a chance of winnining. even if he did get a haye fight which he wont i think haye would ko him.

Haye won't fight Enzo. Would be a cracker (and a pick-em) if he did though. For however many seconds it lasted for.

I kind of agree with Enzo. BUt i am not so sure Enzo has fought much better opponents has he? But it seems like Enzo is more wanting a fight with Haye and that is a shame. Haye dosnt seem to want it really, and he should!
But it would a hard fight to predict really. It could go either way and it wouldnt suprise me.
Who is the harder hitter between the 2 i wouldnt know? Some say Enzo, some say Haye. But who hits hardest isnt going to decide who wins anyway.

haye can't make the weight limit very well now so he will wait for his wbc title shot and move up, he has said that this will be he's last fight at cruiserweight, enzo knows this so he knows haye wont ever fight him at cruiser, and i dont think enzo class of opponents are that much better than hayes.

Neither have fought the top few but apart from that it's a pretty weak division anyway. You're right about Haye moving up anyway and I can't see Mac moving back up to Heavyweight. Shame really as it could be one hell of a fight.

To me Enzo looks like a big lad and it suprises me he couldnt make heavyweight. He is a tall guy! Haye is such a big boy as well. Cant make cruiserweight. Men are getting bigger and bigger.

the only way this fight happens is at either a catch wieght above 200 pounds (210 maybe to ease hayes struggle) or full blown heavyweight fight

He can make heavyweight, and indeed originally was for most of his career. Losing to some no-mark will concentrate your mind though and get you down to your fighting weight which is what cruiserweight is.

I'm surprised Haye can't make cruiser though. He's tall but he's not "big" big.

The fight won't happen though - Haye's going for heavyweight and Mac's got the cruiser titles to fight for. It'll be very interesting to see how Haye gets on up there - he's got all the talent in the world and christ knows the division needs it.

I think Haye could stay at cruiser for a while and try and clear up. Lets face it there isnt much to clear up is there. He might as well do that. And yes move up to heavyweight afterwards. Afterall, everyone including the middleweights want a piece of the heavyweights ass' nowadays.
