    Pacquiao-Valero and Barrera-Soto kick off 2007

According to an article on ESTO, Mexico's leading sports newspaper, Soto has signed a two-year contract with Top Rank. During their meeting, Arum showed Soto the contract that had been signed by Pacquiao, and assured him that Pacquiao would be fighting Valero in early 2007. This was a result of the ongoing feud between Golden Boy Promotions and Top Rank, as a Pacquiao-Barrera match is no longer a possibility.

Since Barrera must take on his mandatory challenger in March, Soto seems to be Marco's next opponent since the former is the No. 1 challenger. Therefore, as it stands today, Pacquiao will fight Valero in Macau and Soto will take on Barrera in early 2007.

LOL, this is funny. Xcaret claimed that Pacquiao was afraid of Valero and is taking him 4 months after running Morales out of Las Vegas.

Truth is, how do you market Ikeke? He doesn't have an entertaining style or fan base, so you can't really do too much with him.

Well, Soto is the next available, highest ranked fighter at 130 right now (in the WBC rankings) so if Pac decides to sidestep Barrera then Soto would be the next in line.

HOWEVER, Pac's promotional future remains to be seen. If a court rules that Pac's contract with Top Rank is no good, Golden Boy would then be Pac's promoter and the Valero match would not go on (unless GBP decides to draw up a new contract for Pac-Valero).
