An exuberant Francisco "El Gato" Figueroa just contacted BoxingTribune.com to inform his fans that a fight between him and Dmitriy "Star of David" Salita is on!
"It's on!" stated Figueroa. "Both sides of the party have confirmed. It is on February 17. Where will it be? I don't know. Will it be on TV? I don't know."
Salita's promoter, Lou Dibella, has an HBO Boxing After Dark date scheduled for February 17 which is expected to be headlined by another New York Jr. Welterweight, Paul Malignaggi. Some reports were stating that Salita would be on the televised undercard, but that has yet to be confirmed.
BoxingTribune.com has learned through another source that Dibella is still shopping around for a solid co-feature to Malignaggi's main event.
The expected venue is the Manhattan Center in mid-town Manhattan.
Dmitriy Salita(26-0-1, 15 KO's) was origionally rumored to face Edgar Santana in a New York showdown. Reportedly, Salita was unhappy with the money. In his last outing, Salita won a unanimous decision against Francisco Campos in September.
Figueroa(14-2, 10 KO's) is coming off of a very impressive defense of his New York State Jr. Welterweight title in which he won a split decision against crosstown rival, Joey Rios, at Madison Square Garden.
