The old timers and their "padded" records...

I say "padded" for the purposes of a Title line rather than a cheap shot.

How much bank do you guys put in the records of a lot of the old timers. I hear so much about fighters today not fighting as much as the fighters of the past. Yet as we know, a lot of fighters of the past with 50, 60, 80+ fights may have had trilogies with fighters they probably didn't need trilogies against (except for the extra change to feed their families as they didn't make as much back then).

Do you think that fighters today get too much slack for not fighting as many fights? Do you feel it is justified? Do fighters today really need more time in training? Is it politics that create so much distance between fights for top fighters?

    Open for discussion. Nothing specific.

i think that fighters every time they fight will hope to get more money than anything else.. many of the top fighters today dont have padded records like before unlike JR.

37 title fights, the first half of his career is padded, the rest isn't.

His son has no amateur experience, lots of Mexicans seem to skip amateurs and go straight to pro at like 15 years of age.

And it just got brought to my attention that Chavez had more title defenses than Joe Louis.. I thought Joe Louis held the record?

Joe Louis is a Heavyweight so the rest of the competition under, don't count.

Kind of like the 49-0, it is a heavyweight record...although you could even debate this since you have to look at the competition, when the fighter stepped up the competition, when he won the title and how many title defenses.

When you have guys fighting in seperate divisions because of 5-7 pounds, you can't compare that to Heavyweights who have no weight limit.
