    Chuck Wepner

what do you all think of Chuck Wepner? If was a fighter today, how would he rank with today's heavyweights? also, if Ali wasn't the champ at the time and someone else was, do you think he would've had a better chance at becoming heavyweight champion?

Personally, I think he that everytime he fought, he showed that he has heart, punching power (somewhat), and even though he was an easy bleeder, he took a pretty good punch. As for today, well, like most of the heavyweights today, he's a big guy (6'5"), so at least he could match up in size, and his awakward style would give fighters some trouble, but not enough to one of the greats of today, or even heavyweight champ. As far as the heavyweight championship from the 70's, well, i think he could've had a better, but not that much, and I doubt that he ever would've been champ.

Chuck Wepner wasn't all that skilled and didn't have the accuracy to bring the power to his man often.

He would be a journeyman with many losses. Hes famous "knocking down Ali" when he really just stepped on his foot.

He didn't have much puch. He had a tough chin and fighting heart though. I think he'd be a journeyman today as well. He cut very easily and fights are stopped much sooner these days.

I thought he looked kinda **** from watching him fight Ali. I only remember that fight because of all the rabbit punches.

His technique was terrible, but he was quite old by then, and wasnt given a chance to go past 4 rounds.

I think i have him on tape fighting Liston. I should watch that again.

If he were around today, i dont think he would achieve much. He may have been big, but didnt look strong or powerful. Just awkard.

he was an amateur plain and simple. he would have went nowhere today even with the division as weak as it is

He was a tough guy who tried. Mentally I'd say he was stronger than most of the guys out there today. He would probably win one of the belts. I bet he'd outlast Briggs and stop him late I'd give him a 50/50 shot vs. Maskaev. Valuev would eat him for lunch and Wlad and Samuel Peter would destroy him. Toney would win every round of the fight.

He was a big (6'5"-6'6"), strong journeyman with an iron chin and a pretty good punch when he could land it. Didn't look that powerful or explosive but he was no picnic to get hit by. Above average power for a heavyweight.
