I just saw this fight for the first time. Theres no doubt Griffin was a bad matchup for Toney with his awkwardness and good footwork, but damn these scores were out there. I think they were 117-111 twice and 119-109. Do you guys remember this fight?

That's more about Toney having a lot of fans and Griffin having few, honestly. Both fights were close, though, yes. Toney rarely landed clean power shots, that was his problem. He mainly landed jabs. Griffin was hooking and throwing power shots, even though he wasn't landing at a high %, he was circling and stepping around, and really throwing Toney off and clearly making him look uncomfortable, when Toney is normally very fluid and comfortable when he fights.
Griffin had a tough style when he was on his game. He was outboxing Roy and giving him trouble in the DQ fight, remember.Comment

I thought it was close, could have been either a draw or a close win for Toney imo. Griffin took 4 of the first 5 rounds and the last one. Toney's balance kills him because everytime he stumbled back it looked like he got rocked, when in reality he didnt get touchedComment

No, it was about a vast majority of people scroring the fights one way, and the judges rendering a curious decision.
The 2nd fight in specific was one of the worst robberies of the late 90's.
Your take is a very poor and minority one.Comment

That 2nd card is probably Lederman's worst card I've ever seen. There's no way in hell that Toney won 9 rounds of that fight. A close 1-2 round victory either way, I can't argue with. But 9-3 is absurd, as is calling either fight a "robbery." They were both very close.Comment

Toney won no less than 7 rounds in the rematch. The 1st fight was close. The 2nd wasn't.Comment
