Jermain Taylor has returned to familiar surroundings, seeking to overcome the only blot in his professional record.

After training in Miami the first five years of his career, Taylor worked out in Memphis and Detroit for his past two bouts.

The Detroit camp was for Taylor's recent match in which he retained his middleweight title but only managed a draw against St. Petersburg's Ronald ''Winky'' Wright.

Now Taylor again is in Miami, preparing for his third title defense against Kassim Ouma on Dec. 9 in Taylor's hometown of Little Rock, Ark.

''I love training in Miami. I've got the weather, [and] even though it's been cold, what's wrong?'' Taylor said Tuesday before a public workout of South Florida's recent chilly temperatures. ``Of course I would come back [to train for future fights].''

Training locally helped Taylor through his early post-2000 Olympic phase, middleweight contending status and eventual challenge of longtime champion Bernard Hopkins.

Taylor (25-0-1, 17 knockouts) looks for the Miami connection to prepare him for victory against Ouma -- a bout which could become the prelude to a second Wright fight.

HBO will showcase Wright and Taylor on successive Saturdays, teasing a possible rematch next year. Wright will fight former welterweight champion Ike Quartey on Dec. 2 at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa.

''He has to go out there and look good, and I have to go out and do the same,'' Taylor said. ``I know I'm going out there and do my thing. I hope he does his and not mess it up for everybody.''

Despite retaining his WBC middleweight title, Taylor is pushing for a rematch with Wright. In what was expected to be a bout of stylists, the Taylor-Wright fight featured exciting exchanges and Taylor often fighting off the ropes.

''I did a lot of things wrong with the fight. I kept my hands down, stayed on the ropes when I didn't have to,'' Taylor said. ``I feel if we fight again, I will do a lot better.''
