I think the original thread has gotten way out of hand, so I would like to start it over from a sensible perspective.
Pacquiao has no reason to fight Marquez at this stage in his career. Pac does not need this fight, he can make more money still fighting other elite fighters out there, like say, Edwin Valero. He could even move up to Lightweight and fight Juan Diaz, a champion and a recognizable name. The only person that would benefit from the rematch would be Marquez. He is the one that needs to fight Pacquiao, because it makes sense for him. We all know that whoever Pacquiao fights will make alot of money. This is clearly a publicity stunt in an effort to salvage what's left of his tumultuous career. If you don't believe that it is Marquez that needs this fight just look over the facts:
Marquez turned down the biggest payday of his career, 750,000$, for an immediate rematch with Pacquiao. He believed that he deserved top billing when in fact it was Pacquiao that was the big draw. From the start we see Marquez's penchant for making demands that were not his to make. Why he would believe that people would pay to see him fight is beyond logic. In fact, it was only after fighting Pacquiao that he became remotely recognizable. He would then fight for only a third of that money defending his title in what could be dubbed as a complete snoozefest.
Because of his un-entertaining style he was stripped of his title. No one would even front 50,000 dollars to stage his mandatory fight. Thus, the IBF stripped him of his belt. Not even his promoters at Top Rank would put up a measly 50,000$ for Marquez to defend his belt.
With no where to turn, and immediately looking for leverage when it came to negotiate fights, he went to Thailand to fight for the WBA title. He fought Chris John, and lost a hometown decision. He made 30,000$ for that fight.
Without a title, without a recognizable name, without an exciting style, there is no reason for Pacquiao, let alone any other boxer fight him. Pacquiao could make more money and have just as tough a fight against other elite fighters, such as Guzman and Valero, both champions. Marquez has no clout and should not be making any demands.
And of course he would call Pacquiao out. It just makes sense, to fight Pacquiao would mean immediate exposure and a big payday. In fact, I think every Super Featherweight out there is itching to fight Pacquiao and get that money and fame.
"Is [Marquez] the best featherweight in the world? Yes. Can he become a superstar or be thought of in the same light as the other two Mexicans [Morales and Barrera]? Not without fighting Barrera or Pacquiao."
