I am confused:
Ray Robinson official website
In 1939, Sugar Ray won the Daily News Golden Gloves Featherweight championship.
While still an amateur, he had 69 knockouts in 89 registered fights. Sugar Ray was undefeated in 125 fights, both registered and unregistered.
He turned professional in October of 1940.
His winning streak of 40 professional and 125 amateur fights was ended on February 5, 1943 by Jacob LaMotta.
Ray fought 85 amateur bouts and 40 professional bouts before he lost for the first time; He did not lose again until his 132nd professional fight; In all, he reportedly had over 200 pro bouts and lost just 19 - many towards the end of his career - when he was only "very good"
boxing, Sugar Ray Robinson, champion, Jake Lamotta, Gene Fullmer, Carmen Basilio, Randy Turpin, Rocky Graziano, Tommy Bell, Kid Gavilan, Henry Armstrong, Sammy Angott, Fritzie Zivic
Now forever known as Ray Robinson he won New York Golden Gloves titles at featherweight and lightweight, and built an undefeated amateur record of 85-0 with 69 knockouts including 40 in the first round! According to his autobiography, sportswriter Jack Case after seeing one of Robinson’s amateur performances said he “sure was a sweet fighter” and called him “Sugar Ray” in one of his sports columns and the now famous moniker was born.Last edited by Abe Attell; 11-21-2006, 11:55 PM.Comment

I'd be too sharp for you, I'm strong at 168 right now, southpaw stance, had some of the best right hand work in the business, and knocked out Wayne Asker (who had never even been down as an amateur or pro) with my right hook - didn't just knock him out, he was fast asleep on the way down.Last edited by GEOFFHAYES; 11-22-2006, 12:20 AM.Comment
