Arum disses Oscar De La Hoya about Pacquiao

A legal fight for the right to promote boxing's hottest rising star, Manny Pacquiao is certainly heating up. This past Saturday night after Pacquiao's destruction of Erik Morales, Top Rank's Bob Arum announced he had signed a four-year contract to promote Pacquiao.

The deal may come with some problems however, as two months ago on September 18, De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions announced they had signed Pacquiao to a seven-fight deal.

In Kevin Iole's recent article in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Arum blasts De La Hoya and his CEO, Richard Schaefer for what describes as being high-pressure tactics in coercing Pacquiao into signing. Arum even cited Pacquiao's lack of education.

Iole quotes Arum as saying: "He (Pacquiao) flew 15 hours to get to the United States and (Schaefer and De La Hoya) grabbed him, took him to a restaurant and throw a contract in front of him," Arum then added: "He said, 'I want to discuss it with my lawyer.' They knew he had a meeting the next day with Top Rank, the kid kept saying he wanted to talk to his lawyer and Oscar kept throwing it in front of him, throwing it in front of him, throwing it in front of him.

Arum spoke on Pacquiao's lack of education, citing it's not right what they did, and then called them creeps for doing so. "The kid never even graduated from grade school, damn it. He signed the contract and took the money. That's not right. It's not right. They can be all high and mighty and say they do everything for the benefit of boxing, but they are creeps. Trust me, they are creeps." said Arum.

Did DLH try threatening Pacman??? LOL Thats why hes never gonna be the next Don King, because nobody is scared of that sissy

Golden Boy did nothing wrong. Paquiao was a free agent, just like every other sport, when a guy is a hot free agent, he is gonna be sought after and Golden Boy jumped on the oppurtunity. Arum is just pissed that Oscar got to him first and than tried to sign him after he already was signed by Golden Boy. This is gonna get ugly and Golden Boy will fight this. as they should. If Manny has signed a contract and accepted money, than legally there is not much Arum can do.

I truly love the warrior that is Manny Pacquiao, I just don't understand how he thought it was kosher to sign a deal with GBP two months prior to signing with Top Rank.....

Don't these multi-millionaire boxers have financial managers, lawyers, etc that educate them on things of this nature. The way the Bobfather explains the situation, it seems as if Oscar flew Manny over here, sat him down in a restaurant and basically said "I'm Oscar De La Hoya sign with my company now".

Now its common knowledge in this country that signing a contract obligates you to the person rendering services to you, so going out and signing with someone else to perform the same duties is obviously a conflict of interest and grounds for litigation, from a contract perspective. Hey, maybe Manny thought he was doing the right thing...who knows.

The chance of Barrera/Pacquiao coming off is truly slim. Bob hates Oscar and Oscar hates Bob....the only thing I can think of that will make this fight happen is ....MONEY! Both Arum and DLH are disgustingly rich and I'm sure they'd both consider making the rematch for the better interest of both companies.

Pacquiao's contract with GBP will most likely be honored because it was signed first.

Both GB and ARUM are sneaky SOBs but Arum is worst. The fact that he already knew Pacquiao has already signed a contract why would he ask Pacquiao to sign again. He should have ask the court to nulify the first contract before doing anything else.
