  • The Lies Of Matchroom Boxing

Froch vs Groves was a sell out within 11 minutes...

Was this literally just said to get people to buy the PPV, the reality is matchroom use a god awful system for their ticket sales that didn't work well during Froch vs Kessler 2.

So it comes to two weeks before the fight and they announce a limited (200) tickets are on sale...

It's now 6 days before the fight and at least 50 of those are still on sale, doesn't suggest to me that they have been telling the truth with all of this.

Whilst it wouldn't surprise me that Matchroom might be talking bollocks...wasn't the tickets for sale through Eventim for this?

At Prizefighter on Thursday the ring announcer said that the returned tickets for Froch/Groves had just been received and would be made available for sale. So perhaps that's why they are now on sale...It'll be a sell out, you can guarrantee that. In this case, Matchroom don't even need to lie.

According to Hearn they're on resale. Something to do with the fighters receiving a certain allocation. He said 18,000 tickets apparently sold that day, the other 2,000 (?) were allocated.

Yeah suppose I didn't think of resale tickets to be honest.

Hearn did address this in one of the IFLTV videos; he gave the fighters allocated tickets, and what they didn't sell were returned to Matchroom and put up a week or so ago for resale.

Obviously 11 minutes is impressive to sell 18,000 tickets but when you look at eBay a fair margin of that is touts (as expected).

On a more general note, I find Matchroom very transparent in their business. Far less ducking and dodging than their American counterparts. If they don't fancy a fight, they come out and say that. The Hearn's are salesmen, but this is about making money.
