British? I hate when people say British. Say English, Welsh and Scottish. They are different. That'd be like calling all from fighters from Mexico, Puerto Rico, America, Peru the America's fighters. And British does not include Irish people.

Anyway I really have no idea. The biggest win in my mind right now is Watson over Benn, that was a big win but was two English fighters. Barry Mcguigan's win over Eusebio Pedroza was huge at the time but Barry's Irish.

Ha You hadn't put up the poll yet and I'd said Barry-Pedroza. Guess I had a better idea than I thought.

I Don't think Benn's win over Mcclellan should be there. We all know Mcclellan shouldn't have fought that fight, he wasn't healthly and it ruined his life, not only his career. A healthy Mcclellan murders Benn like he almost did in the first.

In fairness i said British to encompass all those nations, just easy way of doing jt i suppose...

Watson over benn was great but i don't think benn was on the top of his game by that point. He was still very crude. To your other post i think Mcclellan was still massively dangerous and would have taken out 95% of boxers that night in the first two rounds.

Any posters with more knowledge if the black and white era want to chip in? I know jimmy wilde was supposed to be one of our finest boxers but i don't know any of big wins

McGuigan considers himself both British AND Irish - as do a lot of people from Northern Ireland.

I'm from London & consider myself a Londoner first & foremost but I don't have a fit when people say I'm British.

Anyway, Jack 'Kid' Berg deserves a mention for his win over Kid Chocolate.

Honeyghan v Curry for me.....the way Lloyd embraced his complete underdog status and literally decided that he was not going back to the UK without Curry's belts showed immense mental strength.

Beating the man widely regarded 'the main man' at the time and to win the undisputed world welterweight championship in America still looks mighty impressive. That win along with one or two others got me into boxing.

Well before my time, but John H. Stracey's win against Jose Napoles (a sixth round stoppage in Mexico City) deserves a very respectful nod as well. Big win, against a top champion in a very hard place indeed. Stracey does not get mentioned enough for my liking, one of London's finest fighting men.

Lennox had many very good wins but none really stood out as being the kind of special win the others did. I considered putting the Holyfield win on there though, maybe the Vitali one aswell
