  • Hughie Fury

Peter Fury has said that Hughie is likely to fight Michael Sprott or Matt Skelton in November.
Big step up in class for the young lad as these guys will push him the whole 8 rounds or so.
I reckon they are gunning for Hughie v David Price next summer.

Hughie is on the bill in Leics next weekend (13th).

Martin Rogan fights the night before.

Any of those three would be a good test for Hughie right now.

Edit to say, not sure Price would be happy with being targeted by an 8 month novice. But we'll have to see what he's doing. Unless he learns how to breathe properly he's going nowhere.

Peter wants Hughie fighting every month or 2 (hes 10-0 since his debut in March) so by next summer he will have 20-25 fights under his belt and ready to fight Price (best of the brit/domestic heavyweights) as a final stepping stone to fighting the top 10 in the world.

      Hopefully he does it.

Rogan fights in Germany at the end of November v ??? too and then fights in a MMA (yes, MMA) fight in March in Belfast v an Irish MMA guy who called him out LOL

Plus the fact Rogan is his own manager and absolutely hates Hennessey with a passion after his fight with Tyson last year, a fight v Hughie will never happen unfortunately.

I'd rather Hughie had some fights in 2014 with the likes of Cornish and Lewison....up-and-coming lads who would give us a good yardstick as to where he was amongst his peer group. But it ain't my career and Peter Fury knows exactly what he is doing.

The Rogan fight would be good though.....gotta be useful for Hughie to share a ring with a guy who will give it a proper go and come to win.

Rogan must be running on fumes by now but for a few rounds he'd be coming out throwing bombs and bull his way forwards and make life as uncomfortable as he could for Hughie. Always wish Martin had started a wee bit younger but he's had a good career despite the late start.

I wasn't dis*****g Hughie's ambition - although if he's had 25 fights by June then I'm going to guess it's against 25 journeymen. As he steps up in quality there will be longer gaps between fights. That's only natural from a physical & business point of view.

But I'm talking about Price. Prior to meeting Thompson he was thinking world title now he's rebuilding his career & fighting a hungry young contender like Fury won't be a part of it. If his management have any brains (& in accepting an immediate rematch with the Tiger I'm rather doubtful on that one) they'll start him off with a Zack Page type character then go after an established name. Hughie wouldn't make any sense from Price's point of view.

@Taansend....you're right on Hughie v Price, not least because big cousin Tyson wants first dabs and both camps will want that bigger pot of cash.

I see a scenario where Maloney finally grabs back the reins of Pricey's career and he has a few fights to get back his confidence and become credible again; then the Tyson fights get made.

Tyson v Price is by no means dead. It either gets made as a nice, gimme world title defence for Tyson or with both guys fighting in a big British/Euro belt as they aim for the top again.

Spencer Fearon made a good point on the toe2toe podcast; as long as Hughie is in learning fights where he can develop his ring generalship, and is aware that you can't knock them all out, he'll be successful.

He is only 19 so he's not filled out yet.

Peter wants him fighting FOUR more times by Nov 16th and doesnt mind if he gets beat at this stage as he is not 'getting matched easy' !!!!!
