He got lucky tonight although I only had him losing by a round or so.

I'm pretty certain the WBO will order a rematch with Beltran although I'm not sure how long Crawford has been the mandatory. And talking of Crawford, is he any good? I've never seen him fight.

But I always thought Burns was a tidy little boxer but since the Mitchell fight he's been trading on his toughness. He reminds me of Steve Collins in that sense (he was a boxer early on then a brawler later).

The Mitchell performance was excellent but maybe he needs to get back to basics. Or maybe he's not that good.

"Terrible" Terence Crawford is the number 1 WBO Lightweight
contender and Ricky Burns mandatory challenger. If you haven't
seen him fight I recommend to look up Terence Crawford-Breidis
Prescott from March 30, 2013. Breidis Prescott was supposed to
fight WBA World Jr. Welterweight Champion Khabib Allakhverdiev
he ended up pulling out of the fight due to injury, Crawford took
the fight on very short notice moved up in weight and gave him
a masterful boxing lesson there's been talks about bringing Ricky
Burns to America to fight Terence Crawford at MSG. And to my
knowledge this would be the first time Ricky Burns would have a
fight scheduled in America. I would think Ricky Burns would have
a strong fan following similar to Ricky Hatton's and his fans would
make the trip to see Ricky Burns debut in America. As for tonight
the fight was a respectable draw he didn't give up like Victor Ortiz
did with Josesito Lopez, Burns showed a lot of heart in this fight he
will back, at least it wasn't a robbery like Brandon Rios-Richard Abril
now that was a real robbery, Rios was awarded a gift decision being
this fight was in Scotland the fight was a lot closer and it could have
gone either way. It will be nice to see the Vasquez unification match.
We will see what Eddie Hearn & Matchroom Sport put together though.

I posted favourably for Ricky to win last night both on this section of the board and the main forum; sensing that his last performance was a rare off night and he would return to his mixture of good, high tempo boxing.

But whilst I admired his massive bravery and ability to remain cool under fire he's really not looking in a good place right now and I think Beltran has every right to feel pretty disgusted with that draw.

I doubt the Burns camp were celebrating wildly last night and Billy Nelson will have to have a sit down with Ricky and work out where they go from here.

Ricky looks young and fresh, but he's now thirty and one bout short of being a 40 fight veteran. Maybe there's more wear and tear there than we think?

Don't know what's happened with Burns last 2 performances .Doesn't look half the fighter he did against Rocky Katsidis Mitchell etc .The American judges would easily have favoured Beltran .

Could this bring things to a close for him?

I also think his recent fatherhood can't have been helpful in the run up to this fight.

It would be a shame if that's the last we see of Ricky, I like that he is humble and has worked hard to get where he is.
That said I'd rather him go out like that than force a come back

Crawford looks good but nowhere near as good as some people or hyping him up to be. The couple of fights I have seen him, he's got good skills and he definitely has potential. We will find out a lot about him in his next 2-3 fights.

That being said, he has enough in his bag to school the declining Burns.

Rocky was a one dimensional guy that couldn't get set with Ricky because of his jab and movement...just the styles basically

Kats wasn't the same fighter he was back in the day

Mitchell previously showed he crumbled under pressure and his chin isn't made for taking clean punches

Ricky just stepped up in class and while Beltran was good and deserved the win the other guy he fought Jose Gonzalez was a completely different class... expect to see more of him in the future that guy dominated Burns and with more experience wouldn't have punched himself out ,shame he broke his hand

If Ricky rematched Beltran it could go Burns way but if Ricky gave Gonzalez a rematch there would only be one outcome so don't expect Burns to fight Gonzalez anytime soon

I'm guessing Eddie Hearn is probably going try and make big last cashout on Burns for his next fight after whats happened when he's put in with live competition

Oh and I'm Scottish and as much as I like Burns I felt extremely sorry for Beltran last night he deserved the nod I had him up two points easily, the judge that had Burns winning should be taken out behind a shed and shot

Burns has been somewhat fortunate in his last 2 fight.
Watching the fight it was difficult to understand why Burns was looking so sloppy and looking to hold. Obviously with the news about the broker jaw in the 2nd round..its more understandable.

Beltran was on the wrong side of a harsh decision and deserves a rematch. It would be good also, to see Burns take on Beltran again and be able to give a better showing of himself.

Seems a nasty injury though...who knows when he will be able to get back in the ring.
