  • Adrien Broner Vs Gary Sykes

Gary Sykes is to fight for the WBO world super featherweight title next month in Las Vegas.

The Dewsbury boxer will face champion Adrien Broner at The Mandalay Bay Hotel on Saturday May 19.

The 28-year-old described the chance as ‘a dream come true’.

For the full story see Friday’s Dewsbury Reporter and Mirfield Reporter.

SOCIAL networking websites Twitter and Facebook were inundated with comments and good luck messages after news of Sykes’ world title bid broke.

Within minutes if updating his Facebook page, Sykes had received in excess of 25 messages from well wishers.

Sykes himself posted: “This little blonde haired boy from Dewsbury Moor is boxing in Vegas for the WBO World title.”

Trainer Julian McGowan, tweeted: “@centralboxing was a carnival tonight (Wednesday). Best ever night in gym thanks to Steve Wood, he delivered!!”

Among the comments from well wishers came one from Gallagher’s Gym in Manchester, who posted: “Brilliant news for Gary Sykes, made up for him and his team. Chance of a lifetime, living the dream.”

Jake Milo, who helps with Gary’s training and nutrition at the Central club added: “It’s the real rocky story”.

Fans are already looking forward to the big night.

James McNicholas said: “May 19 just keeps getting better. Khan-Peterson, Price-Sexton and Sykes-Broner.”

Wakko100 added: “Dewsbury, Yorkshire, England will be buzzing.”

Interviews with Sykes and McGowan are due to be screened on Sky’s boxing magazine show Ringside tonight (Thursday) at 6pm, with repeats during the weekend.

What are your guys thoughts on this?

Good fight for Sykes? Bad one for Broner?

Yeah I heard rumours that Sykes was being considered as a possible next opponent for Broner. It's not yet confirmed on BoxRec but all your above evidence seems pretty legit!

It's a great opportunity for Sykes to box on a big Vegas bill for a world title, but I've no idea how he is gonna win this one. For me Broner is the next big superstar in boxing, but I wish Sykes the best of luck!

This is a mismatch according to everyone i have spoken too no one gives sykes much of a chance to get past 6 rounds, although i dont think he has much chance of winning im hoping he will at least give Broner something to think about but they have speciffically looked for someone they believe they can get the rounds in againts without getting hurt before Broner moves up to lightweight and goes after the bigger names.

He's slick not seen alot of Sykes though but 2 losses to Buckland .I defintley got Broner ko early .

              Why is this fight happening?

Sykes deserves a rematch for the British title at best.

What's the logic here? Why isn't Buckland given the shot? He stopped Sykes once and won on the score cards next time. Ridiculous matchmaking by GBP
