  • Alex Arthur WBC No.3

European super-featherweight champion Alex Arthur has leapt to number
three in the latest WBC rankings as his chances of a world title fight grow by
    the month.

Arthur, who also holds the British and Commonwealth titles, received the
boost after defeating Boris Sinitsin to lift the European crown in July this year.

Erikm Morales and Manny Pacquiao are above him in the rankings though,
while Marco Antonio Barrera is the current champion.

Arthur is now in the top 15 with all four major governing bodies - he is
the WBA number 15, the IBF number six and the WBO number five.

"I'm delighted that Alex is making such good progress," said promoter Frank Warren.

"I don't think it will be very long before he gets his big chance, and when he does I'm sure he will be more than able to take it."

I love watching Alex Arthur fight and think he's a better fighter than he get's credit for but can you imagine Manny Pacquiao vs Alex Arthur or Marco Antonio Barrera vs Alex Arthur ???

There's something a liitle surreal about that.

wow thatsa bit high if you ask me but good stuff.

think he needs a couple of decent fights with gatekeepers at super feather b4 taking onthe elite.

i reckon if harrison loses anytime soon they might look at putting on arthur vs scott.

Just shows you what a European title can do for your ranking then eh? If Arthur can't beat a fake Latino in Michael Gomez I doubt he'll handle the real thing. It's a ***** of a division to try and come up in though isn't it! Barrera & Morales are getting on a bit but Pacquiao's still pretty young so Arthur could try and wait til a couple of those guys call it quits, move up again or whatever but as long as those guys are at the top I don't see him having much success, even a guy like Jorge Barrios is a bit of a beast & probably beyond him at the moment so he's in a real tough position, the only fight for him in Britain is a rematch with Gomez but I see they're matching Gomez with Willie Limond in November so that doesn't look to be happening anytime soon.
Get him in with someone like Juan Carlos Ramirez who is experienced and fought loads of top guys but usually comes up short, he had a decent fight with Carlos Hernandez not long ago so put him in with a guy like that so we can gauge him properly.

Well they say that if you hold a European belt, the WBC will automatically rank you in their top 10 regardless.

        No.3 though?

I heard a rumour that Alex will defend his Commonwealth title against either Peden or Fana next. There is no one good enough to challenge him at european level.

Peden would be a step up for Alex, if he wins impressively a world title shot could be his next fight after.

The number 3 ranking is far too high, i wonder what Frank Warrens next move will be for Arthur. A friend of mine watched Arthur train the other day at Meadowbank. He's seamingly in top condition and hitting the heavy bag like a man possesed. This could be interesting.
