The best boxer most people have never heard of: Lukas Konecny

Of all the boxers in the weight divisions from lightweight up to heavyweight, perhaps the best boxer that most boxing fans in North America are unaware of is Lukas Konecny, the European Light Middleweight champion.

    from fight news:

“Finally a big fight in my hometown,” said European champion Lukas Kocecny (46-3, 22) KOs) at today in Usti. On May 27th 2011 the reigning champion of the SES boxing stable will step into the ring in Usti nad Labem, Czech Republic and defend his Euro title at super welterweight. It will be his first mandatory title defense since winning the title last year. He is challenged by #1 EBU rated Hussein Hayram (34-3, 19 KOs). Against the Frenchman he will not only jeopardize his belt but also show that he is the real champion and remain on the throne of Europe.

The fight at the Zlatopramen Arena in Usti will also be a special moment for Lukas Konecny as he will step into the ring in his 50th pro fight. “In this jubille I want to shine especially in front of my fans. Bayram will have no chance. Besides I haven’t reached my biggest goal yet as I want to win the world title,” Konecny stated. In order to increase his chances for a world title fight very soon he will also fight for the WBO interconti belt alongside his Euro title.

An extra motivation for the Dirk Dzemski trained fighter was announced on Wednesday. The EBU named Lukas Konecny the “Champion of the Year 2010″. “This honour makes me really proud. I was not only the first in the Czech history to win a European title but also receive this high recognition for my sporting career,” acknowledges after the hearing about this award. He will receive the award at the annual convention of the EBU on June 11th in Dublin.

At the SES-Fightnight in Usti the boxing fans will see some more thrilling fights. Promoter Ulf Steinforth will present an international and interesting fightcard with additional title bouts also scheduled.

German TV channel SPORT1 (10 pm til midnight) as well as other European TV stations will televise live the fight of Lukas Konecny from the Zlatopramen Arena in Usti.

saw one fights of his a while back on youtube, wasnt impressed tbf. It was against Ionut Trandafir Ilie.

I see on boxrec he stopped Mathew Hall so thats a decent win.
i cant remember if i saw that or not. For some reason i think i did, but i cant remember anything about it. There was a reason i watched the fight with Ionut Trandafir Ilie but i cant remember why atm. Might have been doing a bit of research before the Hall fight

edit - that was part of the magnificent 7, i did see, still cant remember a thing about it though lol!

        He's quite basic.

He and Hall met in the middle and Koscelny was stronger.

It was funny even in the exchange of the fight Hall got knocked down and managed to clip Koscelny on the chin at the same time - doing nothing to Czech.

Pretty much the best end to career I can think of. I bet all boxers would like to go out like that - literally swinging and landing. Out on his shield to the max.

He's a very effective pressure fighter who uses a combination of high guard with upperbody and head movement and is great at getting inside. Very good defense, Tremendous combination puncher, legit KO power, Iron chin (never been down pro or am) and a great body puncher. He also has boxing ability from the outside though but at 5'8 prefers to be mid range or inside.

He's a very complete fighter and virtually impossible to keep him at a distance. Basic is the last thing i'd call him.

I honestly think he would beat Angulo and Cotto. He's rated at 2 and 3 in two different organizations so hopefully he will get a title shot soon.

His fight vs Hall was super exciting.

Lukas Konecny is a very good fighter. Extremly underrated, pretty disgusting how Matthew Hatton got a 154lb title shot when he's never even fought at the weight. Why didn't a fighter like Konecny get that WBC title fight with Alvarez?

Because it wound't of been a easy fight for Alvarez?

                  Boxing Politics are a disgrace.
