I assumed it was because he was going to dudey in his shorts if he manages to pull off the upset.

Paul McCloskey – I got that name when I was very young & its stuck with me ever since most people locally only ever call me Dudey. I had a neighbour in my site who was also called Paul McCloskey he was about 9 or 10 years older than me they called him Big Dude & me Wee Dude & it transformed in Dudey somehow & the rest as they say is history.

as in howdy doody.
a redhead freckled face american puppet icon.

i believe puppeteer paul winchell was from the glenn of cork. which is situated near the township of barney of the fife.
