UNBEATEN Edinburgh boxer Craig McEwan is to fight the Canadian light middleweight champion, Kris Andrews, on the undercard of the Bernard Hopkins-Roy Jones Jnr show at the Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas on 3 April.
McEwan has been sparring with Edison Miranda at the Goosen Gym in Van Nuys, California, in preparation for Miranda's attempt on Lucian Bute's IBF super middleweight title in Quebec on 17 April.

Miranda and his coach Ricky Funez have been full of praise for the quality of sparring they have been getting from the Scot. Miranda said: "When this skinny white guy walked into the Goosen gym we thought 'oh no, what have they sent us'. But when we started working, Craig was just so good. He is probably the toughest sparring partner I've ever been in the ring with. He never stops."

Despite his own unbeaten status, McEwan will be taking the Andrews fight seriously. "The guy is the champion of Canada and the fact this is on the Hopkins v Jones Jnr bill means I will be showcased worldwide. I intend to be at my very best for this one," he said.

that made me laugh, good to see Mcewan fighting again, and getting more quality sparring, come on craig

Boxing: McGuigan weighs in for Anderson's title rights

BARRY McGUIGAN has demanded that Kenny Anderson be granted a title fight against the winner of Friday's Paul Smith v Tony Dodson super- middleweight clash for the British belt.
McGuigan, manager of Edinburgh fighter Anderson, has contacted the British Board of Boxing Control secretary after Northampton's Paul David pulled out of their eliminator bout for the second time after breaking his nose while sparring.

Former WBA world featherweight champion McGuigan said: "As I've told the board secretary, that's not our fault. I have spent a considerable sum of money for Anderson's special training camp in Clitheroe over the last four months and Kenny has put in hard hours of self-sacrifice, training and sparring.

"So, in fairness to us, I've asked for the Board to sanction my proposal that Anderson should fight a straight title challenge against the winner of Smith and Dodson for the British super-middleweight title."

Anderson will now face a substitute opponent, Reading-based Gambian Patrick Mendy, in a non-title eight rounder at Glasgow's St Andrew's Sporting club on Monday.

Anderson said: "I was originally gutted at David pulling out again but I support Barry McGuigan's request 100 per cent. I've looked at Mendy's record and he has scored no knockouts or stoppages in his first eight bouts in contrast to my record where I stopped many of my previous opponents, so that makes me even more confident."

      • EDINBURGH'S former WBO super-featherweight champion Alex Arthur is close to joining with Hatton Promotions.

Arthur has been locked in extensive talks with Ricky Hatton following his split from Frank Warren and expects to join the Manchester fighter soon. "Our discussion were very productive," he said. "Ricky and I are singing from the same songsheet."

Paul davids a ****, twice hes done that to anderson, man anderson must have the worse luck ever.

Good post Rocky .Looking forward to seeing Anderson at British level. That looks like a good move for Arthur .Hatton'll fast track him like Lawton .I hope he makes lightweight because he looks after himself so he's probably got plenty left in the tank. I just don't think he's putting the hard work in moving up to LWW .Wonder what level he can box at at lightweight .Hatton'll probably get him a world title fight
        Article from Rosstraining
Micky Ward, who fought at 140 pounds his entire career, once said that the only reason fighters go up in weight is because they do not work as hard as they did when they were younger. His career is evidence of this theory, as he always entered the ring in top shape, and never moved up from 140 pounds.

ALEX Arthur is targeting a world title shot within 12 months after confirming yesterday that he is poised to sign a three-fight contract with Manchester-based Hatton Promotions.
Ex-world super-featherweight champion Arthur, from Edinburgh, held talks with Ricky Hatton recently after parting company his long-time promoter Frank Warren and has pronounced himself satisfied with the terms he has been offered.
              http://sport.scotsman.com/boxing/Art...hin.6196152.jp
Arthur, 31, said: “I have gone over the particulars of the contract with my advisers and everything is fine. I expect to put pen to paper this week and have my first fight under the Hatton banner towards the end of May. The agreement is for two eight-round bouts followed by a guaranteed title fight of some description before the end of the year. This is the first step on the road to becoming a world champion again.”

Arthur’s comeback bout will be in England, but he added: “Ricky says he will be bringing me back to Edinburgh at some stage because he wants to promote shows in Scotland through me.”

Meanwhile, Coatbridge super-featherweight Ricky Burns’ proposed WBO bout with champion Roman Martinez was put back until midsummer at the earliest. Burns will fight an eight-round non-title contest meantime at West Ham’s Upton Park on 15 May

Ricky Burns secures title bout with Roman Martinez

Ricky Burns will finally get his shot at Puerto Rico's WBO world super-featherweight champion Roman Martinez.
After months of wrangling between the two camps, the Commonwealth champion from Coatbridge will meet the unbeaten Martinez in Glasgow on 4 September.
At a media conference to announce the Kelvin Hall event, Burns said: "This has been dragging on a bit.
"It is the biggest fight of my career, but I'm more than confident that I can beat him."
The 27-year-old Scot was installed as mandatory challenger late last year, with the bout scheduled for the champion's homeland.
"At the start, it was meant to be in Puerto Rico, then it was here and then there were a few dates that all fell though," explained Burns.
"I was originally training to fight on the 17 July, but obviously it was moved forward.
"But the date is set now and I have something to train for.
"I have 10 weeks' solid training ahead of me, more than enough to prepare for this fight."
On the same bill, Greenock fighter John Simpson will defend his Commonwealth featherweight title against English rival Stephen Smith and Edinburgh super-featherweight Paul Appleby returns to the ring after a year's absence, with his opponent yet to be announced.
Martinez, also 27, who won the title from Nicky Cook in Manchester in March last year, has since won two defences on home soil with knock-outs against Feider Viloria and Gonzalo Munguia.
With all the delays for this proposed fight, Burns has fought just once since last June, beating Youssef Al Hamidi on points in a non-title bout on 15 May.
